Watch That Blood Pressure...
Review of IBP A40 by
derek-j-a
Advantages: Can regularly check blood pressure at home and help give peace of mind
Disadvantages: Not good if you get over-anxious about health.
...I have owned my ibp blood pressure monitor now for about 3 years and I find it to be very accurate, having taken blood pressure readings from various family members who have confirmed that it has agreed with their doctor's findings. If you are a person who doesn't lead a healthy lifestyle, such as eating the wrong types of food and not getting enough exercise, this is a very handy gadget to own. At the time of writing (September 2005), Tesco on-line ...

not quite so hot these days
Review of Braun RT3520 by
Miskah
Advantages: does what its supposed to safely, accurately and quickly
Disadvantages: replaced by more stylish models with increased functionality
...one of the older model Braun thermoscan thermometers and was titled the EZ. Compared to the more sleekly designed updates it appear bulky and not as good to grip but it does have much the same functionality and was the first totally portable one I used. The previous ones used by my PCT being attached to the portable sphygmomanometer (blood pressure monitor)
As are all of them now, it is easy to use, accurate and fast, giving the temperature in a ... ...degrees C(Celsius) or degrees F(Fahrenheit). The ear probe is safe to use from newborn babies upwards and it is impossible to get a lens stuck in the ear. It is simple to use and easy to position, even in struggling children (and dogs; another story entirely), having a detect feature that helps ensures correct placement, beeping at you if it is misplaced. The temperature is read from a large, easy to see LCD screen which takes around a second from ...

Not just a watch it checks out your ticker too
Review of Polar F6 by
Miskah
Advantages: helps you get the best exercise in the least time
Disadvantages: aren't enough functions for an athlete or a fitness junkie
The polar F6 is watch combining an ECG standard heart rate monitor (this means the accuracy is comparable with an ECG but it doesn’t provide the whole functionality of one. The unit will not detect irregular rhythms or other problems ). I guess a few of you are wondering what I am doing with one of these possibly unsightly things. I bought my first one a couple of years just after I was diagnosed as diabetic following pancreatic surgery. Diabetes ... ...and it was Ugly. The polar F6 is a great step up from that
Overall basics The Polar 6 is a compact unit designed to be worn on the wrist and its going to cost you around £50. It comes in a choice of black, stone and pink and comes in a choice of male or female versions with the female version being smaller both in wrist size and in actual size and actually appears quite dainty
It is a general purpose unit although Polar do make specialist units ...

A great thermometer for peace of mind.
Review of Braun 4520 by
MillwallRose44
Advantages: Very easy to get an accurate temperature.
Disadvantages: Large and bulky
...not accurate. However, with the Braun 4520 which is an ear thermometer and not underarm thermometer, I can get a very accurate temperature within seconds. Although it is not the smallest or lightest of things, it is worth having because of its ease of use. A further advantage is the fact that the thermometer comes with replaceable covers so that it can be used for anyone. These are quite expensive, but I do not follow the advice of changing it for ... ...Overall I really do think that this is a good purchase for anyone who has children or has a need for checking temperatures often. Although I paid £38 for this in boots as I needed it there and then, the price has gone down and I believe that it is under £30 on amazon.co.uk and other sites. ...

Doesn't Miss a Beat
Review of Polar F11 by
emzlt
Advantages: Stylish and functional
Disadvantages: Let me get back to you on that one...
...one of the more expensive Polar watches, usually retailing for around £95, but if you look hard enough you can get a good deal. Included with the watch was a Polar WearLink coded transmitter, which is a more comfortable version than you get with other models (the F5 and F6), and the coding means that it doesn't cross-talk with other HRMs if you are doing a class, it will protect the information received from your heartrate without getting mixed up ... ...from there click 'create' - Polar will ask some questions based on your user info, and make recommendations as to how much exercise you should do and at what heart rate you should be working. You can choose how many sessions you want to do a week, and this is a great motivation for actually going - since I created my programme I have been going to the gym more often than my programme tells me, to make sure I reach all my goals for the week. If you ...
