=== ALLAN AHLBERG ===
I think that I can confidently say that everyone reading this review will know of some of Ahlberg's work, even if they don't know it.
If I say 'Funnybones' and 'The Jolly Postman' I'm sure that your memories will be tweaked, and these are just two of Ahlberg's characters from the 130 children’s books he has written. His books have also ... ...‘Funnybones’.
Allan Ahlberg was born in Croydon in 1938, but grew up in near Birmingham. From the age of twelve, his dream was to be a writer. Before he actually made it to be writer at a variety of other jobs including postman, gravedigger, plumber's mate and teacher.
His work as a teacher is probably what gives him such insight into the minds of young children and makes his books the success that they are.

If I say 'Funnybones' and 'The Jolly Postman' I'm sure that your memories will be tweaked, and these are just two of Ahlberg's characters from the 130 children’s books he has written. His books have also been made into popular television programmes like ‘Woof’ and again ‘Funnybones’.

‘Heard it in the Playground’ is a book aimed at children aged around 7 – 11 and is an illustrated collection of funny poems and songs all about life in a primary school. These poems give some colourful insights into school life. Anybody who has had anything to do with a primary school will recognize the tantalizingly accurate accounts of school life portrayed in the poems. Like ‘Parents Evenings’, ‘The Longest Kiss Contest’ and ‘The Infants Doing an Assembly on Time.’ There's even a collection of songs - with instructions on how to sing them. Most of the poems are fairly short with the final chapter consisting of four longer poems. Children can easily relate to these poems as they are based on a background they know and understand. The book is beautifully illustrated by Fritz Wegner and won the Signal Poetry Award in 1990.
I think that it is very important to grow up with poetry; it plays such an important role into their insight of literature. The poetry in this book is funny and interesting to children and gives children an idea of rhythm and sound.
This is a book I would really recommend to have your little ones chuckling. What exactly is it that's hiding in Harrison's desk? What did happen to all those scissors?
