Cosy look for a stark fireplace
Review of Dimplex BFD20 Stove FIRE by
suehome
Advantages: Simple , clean and ambient at the touch of a switch
Disadvantages: Still needs dusting!!
This little solid fuel look stove is really cute, and spreads a lovely warm glow and focal point into a room.
We had the chimneys taken off the house and the fireplaces blocked in with the coming of central heating. However the dining room lacked that warm and cosy feeling so a visual feature was installed.
This was this neat little stove, straight out the box, glowing and flickering with 'optiflame' effect, all for less than 1p per hour. Should ... ...convector heater, but the flickering flame and log effect is apparent warmth in its own right.
With some copper trinkets around the fireplace area and the lights dimmed, the warm glow from this unit really contributes to the ambience of the room.
Happily the 'optiflame' effect is virtually silent, smell and smoke free, and best of all does not require cleaning out the grate or ash pan. The Victorian's would have loved it, gadget technology and ...

A warm draught up your leg!
Review of Glen GF20TS by
SusanLesley
Advantages: Works well, looks neat
Disadvantages: It would use too much power to be in permanent use
...dad treated me to a Glen 2K fan heater. This was in 1995 - it worked well then and it still works well now so I thought I had better tell you about it! I can't remember how much my parents paid for the heater (let's face it I can't remember what I did yesterday half the time let alone over 10 years ago!) but I have had a look on the Internet and found the heater priced at about £15.
The heater is white and is flat in design. It stands about an inch ... ...about four or five inches deep. It is only about a foot or so across in either direction so it looks very neat and doesn't take up much room.
The instruction booklet is written on both sides of a piece of A4 paper and is easy to read and understand.
There are two controls on the top together with the vent through which the air is blown.
The first control has four settings which are as follows:
O the heater is switched off completely - pretty ...

Blowing hot and cold
Review of Glen GU2TS by
MrEvans101
Advantages: Compact, easy to move around
Disadvantages: Limited settings available
This is a very useful little piece of equipment, and don't let sizes be deceiving! Despite being compartively small, and very light, this heater is surprisingly powerful and effective.
From my experience, it is very efficient as it can warm an average sized room within a few minutes. It also has a cooling fan setting, which, conversly, can chill a room within minutes. For the price, this is a bargain, as I'm sure it is as a effective and as efficient ... ...is ideal for giving a quick burst of warm air into a room, or counteracting a draught. This would be particularly useful for an elderly customer, as the size of this fan heater allows it to be easily moved around a room for comfort.
As one would expect for the fairly low price, there are a few problems with this product. For instance, there are only three heating settings on this heater, one of which is cold. Therefore, this product may not meet ...

It's getting hot in here
Review of Igenix 1.2 KW Halogen Heater by
AK-47
Advantages: produces instant heat, lightweight, low energy costs, safe
Disadvantages: the plastic finish does look a bit cheap
...and the purchase of three Igenix 1.2 KW Halogen Heaters were purchased from Wilkinsons for only £8.99 each. Bought online they retail for around £20 each so a real saving was made and it worked out at around £75 cheaper than using oil filled radiators.
Standing 60cm high and 30cm wide the heater produces thermal energy from three strip halogen lights refelected off a metallic surface to the rear. Setting it up is really easy as it already comes ... ...slotting the main unit into the base. Operation is also entirely uncomplicated. With three heat settings 1200w, 800w and 400w it is just a case of clicking on the switch to select and then switching the power on. As soon as the power is on the unit lights up and the heat is produced pretty much in the blink of an eye. With the option to let the unit turn up to 70 degrees you can position the unit centrally in a room and it will distribute heat evenly. ...

B&Q Oil Filled Radiator
Review of B&Q OIL Filled Radiator 1500W by
Hsaxo
Advantages: Small, heats the fulll room, bargain price
Disadvantages: takes a whle to heat up
...for the bedroom. Went to B&Q as knew they had quite a selection didn't want a huge one as we don't really have much room in the bedroom.
We bought it as a replacement for the halogen that we had been using which the dogs kept walking past and singing their tails in.
It takes quite a while to heat up even when it is on full power but once it is warm it is more than enough to warm our bedroom up. It has various settings of heat so once the room is ... ...paid £19.99 for this from B&Q around 6months ago and comes with a years guarantee in case anything should go wrong with it., as far as I am aware they still sell these now all though they might not have as many in stock as it is getting towards summer.
It does not use much electricity and is very economical using only 4p an hour whilst in use on maximum power. Not sure how this compares to other brands as I have only bought this one but it definitely ...
