    The Plot Hedda Gabler is one of Ibsen's better known plays. It follows two days in the life of a beautiful aristocrat named Hedda Tessman. What is interesting is that Hedda is only referred to as Hedda Gabler (her maiden name). Ibsen did this so as to reflect that she is her father's daughter and not her husband's wife. This is a key theme of the play as we see the overwhelming influence Hedda's father (General Gabler) has over her life even though he has died and so we never meet him in the piece.
