Heighley Gate Garden Centre.
Heighly gate is situated just North of Morpeth on the Kelso road, there is an enormous car park and is also served by the 510 Kelso/Newcastle bus service.

Outside there is all the hard landscaping materials such as, edging, paving, gravel and cobbles. All the hardy plants, shrubs and trees are to be found in this area along with the fish (carp), greenhouses, durable (metal) garden furniture and all manners of compost and natural soil conditioners.

On entering the car park (disabled drivers can park in front of the main building) you will notice that the centre has two distinct areas, one is housed in a large, nay, very large greenhouse, the other is inside what could be described as a stockade.
These are generally referred to as inside and outside, although most of the outside is under some form of cover anyway.
Outside there is all the hard landscaping materials such as, edging, paving, gravel and cobbles. All the hardy plants, shrubs and trees are to be found in this area along with the fish (carp), greenhouses, durable (metal) garden furniture and all manners of compost and natural soil conditioners.
There is an army of helpful sales staff and plantsmen in this area and their knowledge is second to none, ask a question and you will soon find yourself in a discussion on the merits of one type of plant over another, in the conditions you have described, for your garden.
Moving indoors the first thing we see is a fruit and veg stall, not very often you get to see the end before the beginning.
Next we can see the featured display, this visit it was a water feature, very impressive, but a bit over the top for most gardens.
The garden lights, pumps, filters & etc are all available in this area, a sharp left turn brings you to the aquaria, all the necessary equipment is here as well as the fish (tropical and cold water) and pet food. Various other small pets are sold here and their needs catered for.
Out of the aquaria and on deeper into the building you will find a collection of house plants, including one or two exotic species at an exotic price, in season, you will find your seedlings for greenhouse fruits in this section.
Moving still deeper inside the building we come across books by local authors, cassette tapes and CD’s, toys and childrens pastimes, aroma therapy oils and candles, ornamental dried flower arrangements and various holders for the increasingly popular tea light candles.
By this time I need a break, just as well that the cafeteria is next in line, usual coffee tea, hot meal or snack is available in here and a play area for toddlers with inflated rubber kerbs to keep them from harm.
Now replete and recuperated from the café it is time for the return leg, this time keeping to your left (it was your right on the way in), a whole new vista awaits.
The aroma of the scented candles returns to tantalise as you browse amongst the decorative indoor plant pots, heading outwards the next things to catch your eye are the cacti and succulents, the fascinating carnivorous plants and the lithops. Next up are the bonsai, established specimens mixed with seedlings, books, accessories, tools and everything you need to create your own.
A large range of flower and vegetable seeds are next, then the greenhouse accessories, the chemical sprays and feeds, lawn care and bird netting.
If it can be put in a garden (indoor or outdoor) then you will probably find it here, if you don't then your time won’t have been wasted as I am sure you will have picked up lots of ideas to try in your own little patch of heaven. :o)
Advantages: Largest garden centre in the area. Good range of products. Plenty to occupy people who wish to spend some time here. Meals or snacks available Disadvantages: With the new epansion there is a lot of walking between departments now. Lots mor people going now and I have found car parking very busy even though there are more spaces
Heighley Gate have just opened a massive Phase 1 of their extension to the existing site. There are a lot more products and because they have more buildings available for indoor housing it means there are more departments.
The Garden Centre is situated on the A697 Wooler to Coldstream road North of Morpeth and opening hours are :- 9a.m. - 5.30 p.m. Mon - Fri. in Summer closing at 5p.m. in Winter.

Sundays. ... ...accessible from a large car park and houses a gift shop where all sorts of items can be bought even down to pans and china. Ther are a large variety of house plants and all of the garden fertilisers, chemicals etc as well as pots and tubs.

Advantages: A good variety of plants and garden equipment Disadvantages: Access from a very busy road so take care
Heighley Gate Garden Centre lies just to the north of Morpeth in Northumberland. Its a very popular centre and often gets full in the summer months although they have extended the car park. There are 2 main parts to the centre - the first is mainly outdoor with a large range of plants, greenhouses, sheds, paving slabs, gravel etc. I bought some fruit trees this year and was surprised at the range & even found some hazlenut trees which I've long wanted ... ...tools, garden furniture, seeds etc as well as a pet shop, fruit & veg stall. Further inside is an area selling many hobby crafts, books and a variety of unusual gifts for all ages. Beside this area is the cafe and we always call here for a snack. The food is good and sandwiches are well filled. The cakes are quite good but I'm a bit disappointed as they used to be like home made. The seating area is pleasant overlooking the countryside with a small ...

Quick review of Heighley Gate Garden Centre, Northumberland
I have to say that when I visited on 29th September 2007 I was DISGUSTED by the poor standards of care in their pet department, along with the even poorer way that the staff responded to my complaint about it. I have passed my concerns to the RSPCA ...
