In short I would say they offer a good choice of food.
Nutritional value of food.
A lot of reasearch and developement appears to have gone into these products. I am fairly impressed by the labelling of the food. The labelling is very clear and colourful. At the side of the packets they let you know if the product is salt free, gluten free, egg free or contains no preservatives, artificial colours or flavours. What it doesn't do is warn you what it does contain. For example if a product contains gluten it won't say "contains gluten".
Baby's enjoyment of food
My baby has enjoyed all the Heinz varieties he has been given. At least I think he has. Sometimes he can't get enough, other times he just isn't interested, but this happens regardless of which food I give him. I think the varieties with cheese in can smell a bit strong but it doesn't seem to bother my little one. The whole family agree that rusks are tasty.
Preparation of food
The instructions for preparing food are clear and easy to follow. For packet food, just mix with either water or babies usual milk. For jars or tins either warm or just serve as they come. Rusks can either be disolved in water or milk, or eaten as they come.
Value for money
You get approximately 6 servings from a packet which costs on average £2 which means about 33p a serving. Jars are about 60p each and last one meal if baby is hungry, two if he is not in the mood for food.
Competition
The alternatives to Heinz baby food are Cow and Gate, Hipp organic and making my own fruit or vegetable purees.
Hipp organic are the best bought foods in my opinion as I am happier with the labelling on them, the nutritional value and they have the added bonus of being organic. What Hipp lack is the choice as they don't do many packets, just two breakfasts. The main products I buy from Heinz are the packets.
The Cow and Gate are similar to Heinz, the only deciding factor between the two is that Cow and Gate are slightly cheaper.
Making my own food is my favorite option as I know exactly what is in it. The only problem is that it is more time consuming to make.
Heinz is a good brand but I have not found a bad brand of baby food.
Advantages: Variety, knowledge that you are giving your child good food, kids love it Disadvantages: glass jars, price, heating up the jars,(my kids refused to eat it if cold!!)
...feeding my first two with Heinz i almost exclusively fed my third daughter on home made food which i sieved, pureed, chopped etc depending on her age. But this an opinion on Heinz and not a home grown lecture so i shall proceed!!
Now, the Heinz range is superb. They have different size jars for different ages, pureed, or more chunky for growing appetites, and the price goes up to about 80p per (large)jar, depending on where you shop/live of course.. ... ...to the foods i prepared. Heinz make it clear what each jar contains, no added salt, suger, etc, and of course you can feed your child straight from the jar...brilliant for days out or babysitters!!
I did find that the jars wouldnt heat up properly just by standing the jar in water and this did not go down well with my 2 eldest, who would spit the food out if cold. This was only a problem with the main courses, so this did not suit my children, of ...

Advantages: Convenient when going anywhere, have a whole range of flavours Disadvantages: can work out expensive, may limit your childs tastes and make it harder on the next weaning stage
...am giving Connor's opinion on Heinz Baby food in Jars and Cans for 8 month olds. Connor has tried many different baby food products and does, at the moment, prefer Heinz jars to cans. Heinz do a wide variety of flavours, they have veggie alternatives as well and they range from 55p to 80p depending on where you buy them - his favourite at the moment is Chicken and Fruit Rissotto. He find's the jars are a little more runny than the cans and are easiler ... ...thick and glupey. I find that jars are very convenient as a working mum. Connor often has lunch or dinner at a child minders and these jars are easy to pack in a lunch box and carry around, they are also ideal for days out, as most restaurants will heat these up for you in a jug of hot water. If you are going out for the day I would recommend that you ask the food to be kept in the jar when warmed, this way you know nothing has been tampered with ...

Advantages: a large variety of flavours, convenient packaging Disadvantages: not very good value for money, not always the best nutritional food for baby
...I have to say that Heinz is a very good baby food. It comes in many forms for maximum convenience, and in a wide variety of flavours to appeal to a wide range of tastes. A jar or two in a nappy bag for emergencies can be a life saver.
Having said that, as an experienced parent, I do have to say that Heinz baby food, just like most prepackaged baby foods, is not good value for money. Any health visitor or even baby recipe books from the library can ... ...own, get a variety.
Heinz does have a special place in my heart, for they are not just a company making money hand over fist marketing baby food. In the US and Canada, Heinz baby food labels can be collected by children's hospitals and redeemed for money to purchase much needed equipment. Eleven years ago when we were living in Missouri, my eldest son benefited from life saving equipment purchased with Heinz baby food donations. This , in addition ...

Advantages: Good choice of foods in varying age ranges, convenient Disadvantages: work out expensive if using all the time
Heinz do a wide range of foods in various age ranges.
The first age range up to 6 months, come in smaller size cans with a ringpull, so can be used on the move.
They look awful, smell awful and taste awful, apart from the stewed fruits and the apricot custard is lovely. They have a funny texture too. I gave tinned food to my son sometimes, and he loved the fishermans pie (awful smell of fish).
As they get older, the food gets lumpier and more ... ...I watered down a heinz baby meal of farmhouse vegetables and it gave a delicious soup for his tummy to manage. You can do the same with the fruits if your child has been ill and needs to work up to normal foods. He has actually asked for this "soup since".
They claim to be fortified with iron and vitamins and low in sugars. I am not too sure about the sugar part. The sauces seem to contain some sugars. I think these foods are great for convenience, ...

Advantages: Convenient if your going out Disadvantages: desserts are sugery
...from his milk I used Heinz jars occaisionally.Mostly if we were going out for the day or for a meal, as restaurants won't heat up your own cooked food. The jars are very handy and come in lots of differnt tastes and textures ranging from 4 months up to 2 years.Smoothe for younger babies and as they get older the food has more lumps.
My little boy really liked the desserts they make..chocolate pudding, strawberry cheesecake and all the fruit varieties(Although ... ...them)So maybe I won't be using the desserts next time. His favourite jar is the chicken and mushroom pasta and after tasting it,I must say is quite tasty. He also likes the Alphabet pasta in tomato sauce.Lots of other choice and variety.
The jars are easy to warm or have cold and are great if you dont have time to cook or your stock up of baby food in the freezer has ran out.
My son didnt live of these he had them occaisionally as home cooked food ...

Heinz Dry BabyFood
I was a bit apprehensive about buying this stuff for Jack as I was rather liking pureeing my own mix of fruit and vegetables and giving this to him. However now he is having a breakfast lunch and dinner I have found making so much stuff pureed rather difficult and I feel they are not as filling for Jack as something like this food. My friend had recommended this particular one to me as she said that her two children had absolutely loved the stuff.
It cost me £1.69pence for this 125gram box from Boots. This box I am using at the moment is the Mediterranean vegetables with rice but there is also a broccoli, cauliflower and cheese one available for the same price and the same size. This food is available from 4 to 6 months onwards.
Heinz boast that the food contains no artificial flavours or colours ...
Advantages: Great if you're in a hurry, quick and easy to prepare Disadvantages: Works out expensive
out quite expensive as there are probably only about 5-6 servings in each box.
Another favourite of my son's are the rusks. These are available in original, sugar-free, apple and banana flavour. They are versatile as they can be eaten as they are, or mixed into a puree with freshly boiled water, or milk.
The breakfast and puddings are particularly tasty as the porridge is very creamy and sweet, especially when mixed with breast milk. The puddings are also very good, especially banana custard which my son loves. All meals are nutritious and contain all baby's daily dietry requirements.
I have tried a few babyfoods including heinz, but have found the ready made heinzbabyfoods taste a bit metallic, but the farley's ones seem to appeal more to my sons tastebuds.
As I mentioned before, the only disadvantage is the cost ...
Advantages: Great tasting treat for babies and small children Disadvantages: None
have been made by Heinz and they come in boxes of 140g. You get 20 biscuits in 10 packets of 2.
The biscuits do contain gluten, and wheat and they may also contain milk, egg and soya.
My packet cost me £1.89 which is standard for all their products in this range. I feel that it is a good value but could do with having more promotions on these as they do not last long at all in my house.
The box states that these biscuits are not suitable for children under 1 year of age but my 10 month old has no problem at all with them.
