Heinz joined together with Farleys and is one of the largest producers of baby food at the moment.
Choice
Heinz do a large choice of baby food. They do packets, jars and rusks. There are about 8 different options for each meal of the day, breakfast, dinner and tea. There are four different types of rusk and loads of different types of jars. I'd count them all for you but I'd get some strange looks from other customers and shop staff. In short I would say they offer a good choice of food.
Nutritional value of food.
A lot of reasearch and developement appears to have gone into these products. I am fairly impressed by the labelling of the food. The labelling is very clear and colourful. At the side of the packets they let you know if the product is salt free, gluten free, egg free or contains no preservatives, artificial colours or flavours. What it doesn't do is warn you what it does contain. For example if a product contains gluten it won't say "contains gluten".
Baby's enjoyment of food
My baby has enjoyed all the Heinz varieties he has been given. At least I think he has. Sometimes he can't get enough, other times he just isn't interested, but this happens regardless of which food I give him. I think the varieties with cheese in can smell a bit strong but it doesn't seem to bother my little one. The whole family agree that rusks are tasty.
Preparation of food
The instructions for preparing food are clear and easy to follow. For packet food, just mix with either water or babies usual milk. For jars or tins either warm or just serve as they come. Rusks can either be disolved in water or milk, or eaten as they come.
Value for money
You get approximately 6 servings from a packet which costs on average £2 which means about 33p a serving. Jars are about 60p each and last one meal if baby is hungry, two if he is not in the mood for food.
Hipp organic are the best bought foods in my opinion as I am happier with the labelling on them, the nutritional value and they have the added bonus of being organic. What Hipp lack is the choice as they don't do many packets, just two breakfasts. The main products I buy from Heinz are the packets.
The Cow and Gate are similar to Heinz, the only deciding factor between the two is that Cow and Gate are slightly cheaper.
Making my own food is my favorite option as I know exactly what is in it. The only problem is that it is more time consuming to make.
Heinz is a good brand but I have not found a bad brand of baby food.

Advantages: Convenient when going anywhere, have a whole range of flavours Disadvantages: can work out expensive, may limit your childs tastes and make it harder on the next weaning stage
