Heinz Dry Baby Food

I was a bit apprehensive about buying this stuff for Jack as I was rather liking pureeing my own mix of fruit and vegetables and giving this to him. However now he is having a breakfast lunch and dinner I have found making so much stuff pureed rather difficult and I feel they are not as filling for Jack as something like this food. My friend had recommended this particular one to me as she said that her two children had absolutely loved the stuff.

It cost me £1.69pence for this 125gram box from Boots. This box I am using at the moment is the Mediterranean vegetables with rice but there is also a broccoli, cauliflower and cheese one available for the same price and the same size. This food is available from 4 to 6 months onwards.

Heinz boast that the food contains no artificial flavours or colours, that it is a good source of calcium, iron and zinc, that it is enriched with vitamins A, B, C, D and niacin. There are no added preservatives; it is gluten and egg free and suitable for vegetarians.

A good thing with using this sort of food is that you just have to add freshly boiled water and wait until it is the right temperature to feed to your baby. There is a feeding table on the back of the box and this gives a rough idea as to how much you need to be feeding your baby at what sort of age and how much needs to be mixed with water. From four months it suggests giving three dessertspoons of food mixed with three dessertspoons of water. At five months this goes up to six dessertspoons and at six months increases to nine dessertspoons.

The storage of this product is easy as it comes inside a silver foiled packet inside a cardboard box and once the foil is cut open it can be easily folded over to prevent anything getting inside. After opening the product needs to be used within six weeks and it needs to be kept in a cool dry place.

I find this product very easy to use and am satisfied with the good standard and taste of the food itself. Jack really does seem to like both of the varieties on offer and eats up all of his dinner with ease. It does need a lot of vigorous mixing as you are liable to get a few lumps in which I would of though wouldn't taste that nice on eating because it is basically lumps of powder. These lumps however do disappear after a lot of mixing but I have recently started to put the water in his bowel first and add the powder to it as I find this causes less lumps.

The taste of both this Mediterranean one and the broccoli one are quite nice as of course I have tried both because I think if I wouldn't eat it them I don't think my son should be eating it. These however are both pretty tasty and the Mediterranean one even tastes a bit like a cup a soup.

I think for both the ease and the price of this dry baby food it is far superior than the jars of food that you can buy as you get so many more feeds from one box than you would do a jar.

5*s for Heinz dry baby food a winner with both Jack and myself!
