Heinz Tomato Ketchup is an item most of us always have in, the humble sauce is a firm favourite amongst children and adults alike, ideal for a huge variety of meals, from chips, burgers, pies, eggs to pizza toppings and as an addition to sauces, and lots lots more.
Not Only does it taste great but it actually is good for us, it can help protect the body from certain cancers and heart disease…how? Well the red colouring found in tomatoes contains lycopene , this is a very powerful antitoxant which helps protect the body from these diseases by protecting it from free radicals…
It is also an excellent source of
vitamin C, so in fact it is the perfect healthy choice for all the family and a key role in your day-to-day nutrition…surprising isn’t it?
~~The Facts ~~
HeinzTomato Ketchup was first made in 1876 in Pittsburgh, US; over 120 million bottles are sold each year in the UK alone.
The Sauce itself is made in factories situated close by to the tomato fields and is made within hours of the tomato being picked to ensure complete freshness and no loss of its quality.
Did you know that a 300g bottle of Tommy sauce uses 25 tomatoes, that’s quite a few toms isn’t it, so really at around 95p for a 342g squeezy bottle it certainly is good value!.
Other ingredients are:
Spirit vinegar Glucose Syrup Sugar Salt Spices and Herb extracts Spices Garlic powder
The exact recipe however is a closely guarded secret and has been for over 100 years, and If anyone has tried alternative brands, you will know that none match the taste or quality of Heinz or even come close.
Ketchup was not always Ketchup however; once upon a time it was called a very pleasant not name. Catsup, an Indian word for a high sauce, and apparently in some parts of the US they still call it Catsup, fancy some Catsup on your dinner? It sounds rather yukky if you ask me. Other rumours say the name was derived from the Chinese word Ketsiap, meaning pickled brine of fish. Again not a nice thought!.
So that’s the facts on our good old friend the Tommy sauce, I think most of you will agree it come out tops every time and not surprisingly Heinz control a huge 48% of the entire world Tomato sauce sales. Available in a range of sizes and bottles, the best by far is the squeezy,I avoid the glass bottles as I have lots of memories of slapping hell out of the bottles bottom in a vain attempt to get anything at all out, only to be rewarded with half the bottle on my plate..ah the good old days!.
For those environmentally conscious there is also an organic variety and for those who are diabetic or sugar intolerant there is a sugar free but this is not widely available unfortunately.
So that’s that or is it, well now I want to also add the Tomato Ketchups newest family member, I could have written a separate opinion but one Tomato Sauce opinion is enough to last me a lifetime! So here it is the latest offering to hit our supermarkets…
Green Sauce, yes you heard right, its still Heinz, its still Ketchup, But it’s a lovely bright green colour!
At present this is available as a limited edition but no doubt it will be here to stay, this green Ketchup took off in the USA and was brought out here as a result of returning tourists campaigning for it here.
Now remarkably this sauce only differs from the red in the colour, nothing else added apart from yellow and blue colourings combined to give it a rich green colour.
When squeezing from the bottle, it reminds you of the bottles of squeezy paint, its thick, smooth and very green.
The first time you actually dare put it on your food, you are almost to scared to try it as it looks very odd indeed believe me, but once you taste it, you realise it is just good old tomato Ketchup. Again kids love it, but most adults find it fun too, green eggs and chips are a real novelty are they not!.
The squeezy bottle itself is an eyecatching green swirly striped, you can't miss it!.
But just when you got over the shock of the Green sauce, there is more to come. Keep your eyes peeled for Ketchup number 3, again already a huge hit in the USA, purple ketchup, now this one is even more a scary thought.
So all in all it’s a big thumbs up for Heinz Tomato Ketchup, excellent value, good for you, tastes great and very versatile, as well as the fun factor, I dare anyone to wait till the purples out and put all three colours on your food. Enjoy!
(+) Tasty and versatile, it can be added to a wide range of meals to give it a kick! (-) I wish they sold the bottle sizes that they have in the restaurants!
Thanks for the op. I didn't realise it helps ward off cancer, Heres to happy blobbing.

Anyone who gives a mention to us diabetics will be in my good books. Beautifully written and stunningly comprehensive too, you were wasted on a certain other site. Thanks, David.
Advantages: superior viscosity, subtlety of flavours play across palette and compliment food Disadvantages: more expensive, but you get what you pay for
Advantages: Rich, Thick, Great Taste, Easy to use squeezy bottles Disadvantages: The only disadvantage is the price, which is only a little higher than other economy or house brands
