I recently looked at some of my early reviews, geez they where poor. I have updated a few.
Here is one of my first book reviews, UPDATED and hopefully improved. (Certainly by 100 words!!!)

Hell's Gate.
==========
Author - David Weber.

Introduction
***************
This will be a short and sweet, or should that be "bitter" sweet review. Being a Sci-Fi reader I should have realised a hybrid of Sci-fi meets Fantasy would be an awful abomination of a read.
Now I know.

The Story
************
The basic story line is a universe where Magic actually works! Arcana, meets universe where technology is supreme, Sharona.

The Union of Arcana has journeyed through portals linking parallel universes. (Basically worm holes)
In that time its soldiers and Sorcerers have laid claim to one uninhabited planet after another but all of that is about to come to an violent and explosive halt.
The Union's scouts have just discovered a new portal, and on its far side lies a shattering revelation.
There is another human society, Sharona, which has also been exploring the Multi-verse. The first contact between them did not go well. Arcana is horrified by the alien weapons of its sudden opponents, weapons its sorcerers cannot explain or duplicate. Weapons based upon science.

The initial contact snowballs into all-out warfare, both sides can agree on one thing.

The portal which brought them together is truly 'Hell's Gate'.

Opinions
************
This is a terrible read, you will be disappointed !

There is no depth to any of the characters, awful dialogue and silly explanations of sorcery versus science. The writing is poor and hangs together very disjointedly. The battle scenes left me puzzled as to what was actually going on?
It put me off reading any more Weber books.

Give this book a VERY wide berth.

So dull it made my teeth ache !!

Happy to rerate. I not sure that SF/Fantasy hybrids can't work, and there are certainly some top SF writers who've also written excellent Fantasy: Jack Vance (e.g. Lyonnesse) and Orson Scott Card (e.g.Wyrms). I've never heard of Weber, but it doesn't sound as if I've missed much!

Again, nice writing, if you decide to extend this review pls let me know.
