The story starts centred around Arcana, a planet and a universe where magic actually works. Their whole culture and the expansive civilisation on the outer planets all depend on magic. Their magicians one day make a discovery and open a hole through space and so their exploration of other universes begins. They grow even richer and more bolder as time passes until one day they come across the Sharona's. The Sharona's universe depends on technology and they are very advanced in that field. Soon a culture clash happens and the two societies are at war. The tunnel through space becomes known as Hells Gate because to the 'magic' society technology is evil and demonic. All efforts are made to close the gate but soon things will take an unforeseen turn and hell in both universes will really be unleashed.
They space battles are written quite well and easy understandable. The dialogue however is poor and none of the characters are fully formed. It was almost as if a child wrote it at times. I was a little disappointed at first but it was an ok read, just. You might like this book for its easy reading and so I will recommend it but warily.

Would have liked a little more detail on the prose and the characters and whether it worked as a piece of fiction - I'm quite the fan of Baen Books' mil-sf titles and Dave Weber's Honor Harrington series but I'm undecided as to getting this book. (I am currently enjoying John Ringo's "Vorpal Blade"!)
