A host of other animals come along to say hello to the big brown bear, until............. the rain starts to fall.

The illustrations are very bold and Louise Voce has drawn some very cheerful animal faces to accompany the text.
They are all set against a white backdrop and although as an adult I can see that the proportions between the bear and the other animals, e.g the bees isn't totally accurate, children really enjoy looking at the pictures of the animals, particularly the page where the birds are popping theri heads and beaks out of the tree to say "hello".
The expression and body movement of the bear when it begins to rain is very well depicted, reminding me of a lot of people's reactions when they are caught out in the rain!
~ Style, Format and Educational Values ~
Although there are no speech bubbles in this book as each animal says Hello or Goodbye in the main part of the text, the relevant word has been placed near the mouth of the animal, e.g. all of the animals around the base of the treee has hello written next to their mouths; the badger, the snail, the frog, the snake.
As you can probably tell from the three animals listed above, there is an odd combination of animals around the base of a tree but children don't seem to notice that and the fact that there are animals there appeals to them!
The text is very limited, great for pre-school children to join in with the repetitive text and even better for emergent readers who will be able to read this book with very little hesitation as the two main words, hello and goodbye are repeated so often.
Pre-school children also like to join in with the reference to the different types of voices, e.g. little, squeaky, deep-down voices. This is great for their imaginative and role-play experiences.

Advantages: Easy to Read and Kids Love iyt Disadvantages: Boring for those reading it
Like any mother I read to my three year old son everynight. He choses the books we read and he usually chooses the same one everyday. I have to try and hide books so that he chooses different ones. Anyway I picked up this from our local Just Books and it costs about £3.99. It was a Christmas present.
The story itself is about a bear who says hello to a tree and all the animals who live in the tree say hello back. The good thing about it, is they ... ...voiced, or sqeaky voiced and kids love this. My son giggled at my attempts.
Then the rain starts and all the animals say goodbye. Again the same deep, soft and sqeaky voices have to be used.
The pictures are bold and deep in colourful. The writing it self is big and bold also and I am sure when my son starts to read himself he will be able to use this book as a beginer's read.
The good thing about the book is the repetitive nature of the story ...

Quick review of Hello, Goodbye - David Lloyd
To be honest I found this book one of the worst. My daughter brought it home from school today and I was shocked at the story and depth of it.
She is 7 and frankly she has read better.
Sorry but I had to be honest. ...
