Herriot Watt University

I am in my second year at SBC (Scottish Borders Campus) doing Clothing, & I wanted to advise you of the pitfalls & rewards of the place.
Firstly, it might seem obvious but this is a really small campus (about 1000 students) & it affects everything that goes on here. It is set in a small town that formerly served the textile industry with Mills & factories most of which are now extinct. There are 3 night clubs here, 'Bonds' is the most popular because of its drinks promos & lively atmosphere. There are plenty of pubs for such a wee place though & the new 'Hunters Hall' is surprisingly respectable. The shops in Gala are limited as are jobs, & the town is wary of employing students. Always check for internal vacancies first. We have a long awaited new union, its pretty good & busiest on Wednesday.

The college itself is fairly well equipped, although you would be well advised to purchase any equipment you are asked to, cos it means that supplies of this stuff are highly limited. The computer suites are nice enough, & there are usually plenty, but Heriot-Watt systems are forever crashing- YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! ALWAYS save to floppy!
The lecturers for the most part are helpful & competent but because this is a small place if you miss one assignment, or class they notice before you do!

MOST IMPORTANTLY, girls if you have a boyfriend before you come here he'll be well chuffed! There are very few straight males here- in fact you have about as much chance of pulling (a student anyway), as you have of seeing a live Elvis concert! Never mind theres always farmers.

WHO SHOULD COME HERE;
Non-snobs please, students here are often affluent but keep it to yerself eh?
People who like a real commuity- with no secrets. There is little anonymity here.
Those who don't mind being far from Edinburgh, there's a free Uni Bus (people carrier) but public transport is dear & slow.
Non-shopaholics.
Non-ravers.
Laid back, patient workaholics!
