WD Raptor hard drives combine a 10,000 RPM enterprise-class mechanical platform with the SATA interface to meet all the demands of the enterprise environment-reliability, performance, and reduced cost.
Advantages: Great Speed and Reliability Disadvantages: Could do with more memory
...The Western DigitalRaptor is a phenominal harddrive. It runs at 10,000 rpm(compared to the average of 7,500 rpm) which makes for a very fast harddrive. It is a Serial ATA disk rather than an IDE disk which makes for not only faster speed(150 mbps) but less cable clutter thus making a more practical harddrive for PC builders and the less experienced PC user This product is at the peak of technology it is not just faster and more efficient than all of the other HDDs it excels their levels in every aspect by far. It also comes with a five year warranty, and as such is the ultimate harddrive. I would recommend this harddrive to PC users of all kinds....

Advantages: The fastest available,16 MB buffer, 4.6 ms seek time, 10000 rpm. Disadvantages: Very expensive, Little capacity
...Every few months one of the five or so large drive manufacturers (WesternDigital, Maxtor, Hitachi, etc) comes out with a new harddrive claiming revolutionary advancements. This crap is almost never true, but with the new 150 GBRaptor we finally have a drive that trys to live up to some of its billing. If you are an enthusiast, power user, rich or just plain hate the slow boot times of Windows, then these Raptors are your ticket. The model I am reviewing here is the Raptor X and includes a clear window in the top plate.
Western Digital has taken a long close look at its previous 10,000 rpm Raptordrives (and many competitors 10,000 and 15,000 rpm SCSI drives) and improved upon almost every weakness. Most notably, the Raptor now sports 150 GB of storage, which is double the amount of room of its previous flagship Raptor. The drive also...

Advantages: Fast Fast & Fast! Disadvantages: Hot, Pricy.
...Western Digital does it again. They release an update to the fastest Sata drive on the market, which was overdue, but well worth the wait. These drives are up to any task you can throw at them.
These Raptors are super fast. Simply, the fastest available harddrive for desktop computers in the world. They have got excellent seek time and data transfer rate. Installing and loading Windows is just fun on these drives. Games load extremely fast. Data copying is just matter of minutes. You can even combine two Raptors in raid to increase the performance beyond all levels.
The drive is fast but gets hot. So, proper air flow across the drive is very important. One more negative aspect of the drive is its very high price. Also, the drive is available in a maximum capacity of 150 GB which is very little for these days.
The decision is up to you...

This hard drive is very similar in look and feel to the other Passport versions that Western Digital has, in particular the Book with a glowing yellow circle that is very nice to look at and quite heavy to boot.

The hard drive is meant to be used internally but I use mine as an external hard drive with an USB external enclosure. The drive might not be the fastest around but it is fast enough to use for those large files that makes life difficult. The fact that... more
