HP High Performance

Advantages: Quiet, fast and great print quality
Disadvantages: Cartridges aren't particularly cheap

...The HP DeskJet 959C is a colour inkjet originally aimed at the high-end home/small office user. It shares the same print engine with its more expensive siblings, the 980 and 990 and many of the same features. I've used this printer now for nearly six years (and tens of thousands of pages) without any problems. This it is the fourth HP printer I have purchased for home use and I'm not sure how many I've used in business. It gives a smoother photographic rendition by allowing up to 29 drops of ink per pixel which means that the amount of dithering required is less. Advantages: Easy to use, reliable, high quality
Disadvantages: A bit chunky and heavy by modern standards

...Scanners do not get me excited, I have to say. When they first arrived on the mass market, they did, as it opened up all kinds of possibilities. My first was poor quality with terrible software and temperamental electronics. I had learned my first scanner lesson - go for quality. This HP was one of PCW's display models at a vastly reduced price about 5 years ago. £90 took me into the very latest and highest resolutions at that time. It is still commendable at 1200 x1200 dpi and 24 bit colour. It is linked to my computer through USB and I find it really fast, particularly at lower resolutions. It is A4 in size, and can handle smaller copy obviously. It comes with a little triangular glass and metal accessory to copy transparencies. Advantages: Oversized paperweight

...Not just poor performance, but the customer support from COMPAQ will leave you screaming for justice. How do I know? I bought a COMPAQ 5150 a little over a year ago and I've had nothing but problems. When I decided to purchase a computer, I didn't do it hastily: I did volumes of research on getting the most bang for my buck. I read "Computer Shopper", I read "PC World", I perused the Internet from my old computer looking for the best machine at the best price. All my research led me to the COMPAQ 5150. My unit cost $1,200.00 US and I thought I had a bargain. 8+ gigs of memory, a cable modem, and, by all counts, a solid machine. HAH! Over the course of a year, my computer had the modem replaced by COMPAQ a total of four times. FOUR new modems and not one of them worked for more than 30 days. My Internet business lost...
