HP Multibay II

Disadvantages: Slower than your average new laptop

...I have been using a Compaq Tablet for the last four weeks for my work. My first impression was "wow", then it was, ok and how do I use it? The PC features handwriting and speech to text, use in portrait or landscape mode and a digital pen to write with. It comes with XP Pro Tablet and uses Office XP with a tablet add on. You can also remove the keyboard from the unit completely and use it solely in 'pen' mode. It has inbuilt network and modem ports. The machine is very light and easy to carry and comes with a black zipped case that holds the tablet in place securely. The case also makes it look like a document wallet which is quite a good security feature in the town where I work. ...with a scroll zone, and the laptop's light sensor can adjust the display for best viewing. Hotkeys include power conservation, volume, and brightness controls. The keys themselves have bright lettering on, which seems to catch the light when it's darker so you can see the keys in low light conditions. The laptop weighs in at about 5lb, and is around 12.5x10x1 inch in diameter. Therefore my colleague has no trouble in carrying it around regularly as its not heavy at all, and a handy option in the system is to remove the multibay optical drive, to replace it with a weight saver to make it even lighter for transportation. The laptop comes with a 65watt slim AC adapter, which includes a 6ft power cord, which is especially handy if you can't sit right next to a plug socket. ...My old laptop that I use for work, a Compaq Armada M700 died recently, and, as I was doing so much work away, I needed something that was going to give me flexibility and reliability. So this is a review of what I got to replace it. ** What is it? ** This laptop is an HP Compaq nc8000, that confused me a little, as my old laptop was made by Compaq!! ** What features does it have? ** Without turning it on! Looking at the front of this laptop, you see directly in the centre a silver catch. Push this to open it. You then see that the lid/monitor is locked by two chrome catches.
