...I have just joined Ciao community to put the record straight on this PDA. A previous Ciao reviewer has given a negative review. I have only owned the PDA (HP iPaq 214 Enterprise Handheld) for two days. I believe I was one of the first in the UK to receive this machine as it became available from 25th January 2008. I was almost put off buying the iPaq by the other review here, but decided to give it a try. I am glad, as the PDA does everything a PDA should and at a very good speed and price. The other review here is definitely not for the iPaq 214. How did he get it some months before anyone else? The description bears no resemblance to my iPaq 214. The reviewer says the camera is appalling and defunct - it does not have a camera at all, so that clears that up. It does have 128 MB SDRAM and 256MB flash ROM, mine also came with 1GB SD card...

...HX4700
The HP iPAQ HX4700 is a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant). In other words, it's a handheld computer. One would be able to use it as an organiser, word processor, MP3 player, gaming device, etc. Basically, most of the things a current PC or laptop would be capable of. The American version is the HX4705 but is identical in every way as far as I know.
WHY I CHOSE THE HX4700?
I had previously owned a HP iPAQ H5550 PDA, so stuck with the HP brand rather than go for a brand like Dell. Asus and many other companies also make PDAs and build quality varies but you can't go wrong with HP on build quality. Another option would have been to go for a PDA running the PALM operating system (OS) but the programs I want to use may not be compatible. The HX4700 runs the Pocket PC OS rather than PALM (Think Microsoft Windows vs. Linux...

Advantages: Great Size Screem, True VGA, Bluetooth & WiFi, 2 expansion slots!! Disadvantages: Screen scuffs quite easily, Screen cover can be annoying. No case!
...Hi,
Working in the job I do, I've had a fair amount of handheld PC's, from the very first Ipaq's, new ipaq's, Palm T3's Palm T5's. Palms so old I've no idea what they are.
After using the palms i swore I'd never use another ipaq again. They were big, clunky, and the major problem was that the battery was always rubbish!
Then I saw the 4700. (Being nerdy like i am, I thought I'd have to try it!)
From turning this on, I was blown away! The first thing that grabs your attention is the screen! After using a Palm it sems massive! The colours are bright and crisp, and the brightness adjusts quite well to the brightness of the room.
The second thing you notice is the screen! (OK, I'll move on from the screen!)
As with the other Ipaqs, they use Active Sync to connect through to the PC. This, as always is very intuative...
