The PA-8700 processor is based on PA-RISC technology and provides customers with excellent performance and investment protection as well as increased system reliability and functionality. The PA-8700 processor provides customers a choice in speed requirements and continues the leadership of its predecessor, the PA-8600. The PA-8700 processor delivers enhanced application performance with 2.25 megabytes of on-chip data cache (.75 MB) and instruction cache (1.50 MB) - a 50 percent increase and more than offered by any other vendor. Although running at higher frequencies than the PA-8600 processor, the PA-8700 processor's copper interconnect allows it to run cooler with lower power consumption and high conductivity throughput for faster performance and enhanced reliability. The processor design, based on the state-of-the-art 0.18-micron silicon-on-insulator copper CMOS process, delivers more transactions in less time. Customers will benefit from the PA-8700 processor's full compatibility with previous PA-RISC processors. Upgrades are easy and require no need for software migration. As opposed to similar upgrades in competitive servers, which are often expensive and cumbersome, a simple "board swap" is all that is required for customers to take advantage of the PA-8700 processor. Upgrading to the PA-8700 processor also helps protect memory, disk and graphics component investments because customers can continue to use their current system components.
Advantages: Fast, sleek looking, DVD player (Win98), good driver support Disadvantages: Unstable, feels delicate not robust
...Working in technical support for a major healthcare company, I get to see a lot of Armada M700s. Compaq have admitted that faulty batches were sent out but this machine seems to be very unstable. It looks very smart with its black case (has a PIII 650MHzprocessor and 64MB RAM), blue mouse pointer in the middle of the keyboard and the newer ones coming with a DVD/CD drive (but you must have Win98 to use DVDs). As this is a notebook, the floppy drive and CD drive are interchangeable. If you want to use them both at the same time a parallel cable is provided so you can run the floppy drive from the printer port. The screen is quite large for a notebook and the display is clear. Sound output is good and it comes with an internal 56K modem and ethernet network card which frees up your PC card slots for other things. Overall, a nice...

...The Hewlett packard pavillion 8690 is a great desktop pc. this is what i use often to get access to the internet and to play games on.
it has an AMD athlon 650MHzprocessor which is quick but there are other pc's with a lot better processors but it is fine for my own use.
the hard drive is 15gb which is great because loads of things can be stored on its memory and i can install loads of programmes on it and still ahve plenty of space.
it also comes with an 8 speed dvd player and a cd re-writer so i can copy discs and put my favourite music onto discs and make copys of vital files.
the computer also comes equipped with a 56kbps modem so it is internet ready. It is also ready for broadband use.
it is a great computer to have and with the features above it does make it stand out a little bit from its competetors....

Advantages: Cheap, Good power:cost ratio Disadvantages: Not HighEnd
...When you're evaluating this product please don't forget that it's probably only costing you £15/£20 pounds and it IS a budget processor.
There is speed to be had in this processor but it's NOT 333 Mhz of speed. It's a cleverly multiplied low-end processor which has a very high effective speed.
The best situation for this chip is where you could normally only fit a P166 Mhz chip. Older machines.
Once excellent place for this chip is in network servers. Laugh all you will but ....
You can pick-up a rack-mountable Compaq Proliant server which support 4 processors (P166) for about £250. Buy four of these and fit them and you've got an awesome little server for under £350. Add extra memory and a good HD system and you've got a VERY capabale multi-function server capable of sevicing over 1000 users on a LAN. I know this as I've done...
