The PA-8700 is the next processor in the PA-8x00 line and leverages the industry award winning PA-8500 design. The advanced micro-architecture of the PA-8700 aggressively executes as many instructions as possible each cycle to maximize performance. The processor exploits techniques such as out of order execution, speculative execution, and non-blocking caches. The Instruction Fetch Unit can fetch 4 instructions each cycle from the instruction cache. From there, the instructions are forwarded to the Sort unit which places instructions into either the 28 entry ALU Reorder Buffer or the 28 entry Memory Reorder Buffer depending on the instruction type. The Reorder Buffers constantly scan their contents looking for instructions that are ready to execute. The Reorder Buffers track all dependencies between instructions and allow data flow execution across all instructions in the buffers. Instructions are no longer constrained to execute in program order. Instead, as soon as an instruction is identified as ready to be executed, and an appropriate functional unit is available, the instruction is dispatched to the functional unit to begin execution. Each cycle, up to four instructions can be dispatched. The PA-8700 includes 10 functional units to maximize the number of instructions that can be executed each cycle. These functional units consist of 4 integer units (2 Arithmetic/Logic Units and 2 Shift Merge Units), 4 floating-point units (2 Multiply and Accumulate Units and 2 Divide/Square Root Units), and 2 Load/Store Units (one for even double-word addresses and one for odd double-word addresses). After instructions have completed execution in the various functional units, they return to the Retire Unit to update the architect state of the processor and thus complete execution.

I think it’s a bad point from HP not to give attention to old customers, I know the printer is a bit old and out of fashion, however the should consider customers who need fixing and service for their products.

...We bought the Compaq Armada M300 as a Christmas present for our 13 year old daughter, mainly for 2 reasons, to run Microsoft Encarta to enable her to do her HOMEWORK! And to run the Sims, she’d been asking for this for about 2 years and we were loathed to load it on the family’s computer for fear that nobody else would get a look in!
The Computer, we found on E-Bay for £145 plus £18 postage, we were not particularly looking for a Compaq, but rather any Laptop that had a processor that met the Sims minimum requirement ( that being PII 300).
The Compaq far surpassed that! And so we went ahead and made the purchase via Paypal on Sunday night and much to our delight it arrive at 7.30am on Tuesday morning.
The only problem, now was that the standard Compaq Armada comes without any external Drives and so we set about finding a CD...

...This is another package from Hewlett Packard which at the time when bought out was reasonable priced. Nowadays you can pickup a package like this between £100 and £250 depending on any upgrades. Usually the processor is around 600mhz and can be upgraded to around 1000mhz. The only problem with this machine is of the L2 cache installed on the main board. The more L2 cache the quicker and easier the processor can handle information. The maximum memory my machine could take was 512mb but not sure on the higher spec machines. My machine came with a scrolling mouse which many machines didn't have. All machines that i knew of came with Windows 98 but this can be wiped and Windows 2000 or even XP can easily be installed with 128mb memory. My PC came installed with Windows 98 and a few other programs installed, these other programs were...
