Ballast is heavy bars of metal that can be mounting in the rear of the to provide permanent anti-tip protection. It prevents the cabinet from tipping forward if heavy slide-mounted devices are are extended from the rack. All HP rack cabinets include a standard, pull-out anti-tip foot that can be extended temporarily while the slide-mounted equipment is extended for servicing. Ballast provides an extra margin of safety in case someone forgets to pull out the anti-tip foot.
Advantages: Small footprint, ease of use and reliability Disadvantages: Cost of running and paper storage
...I've been around for too long and owned or had experience of several makes of printers in the same period including dotmatrix, Bubblejets, Lasers (B/W and colour), most HP's and Lexmark's; each with its own foibles and idiosyncrasies. This particular piece of light grey plastic does me for the job I intended it to do – print in B/W and coloured imagery for internet usage, not for photographic work.
It is ‘fit for purpose’ (a quality professional’s saying meaning it will do what it is designed to do). That is the essence of this printer; it will admirable suit home use and some graphical work (at a cost). Anything more demanding like lots of photographic images will make your pocket feel like it’s got a hole in it.
Printers are marketed very cleverly these days. The money and profits come from...

...-- HP LaserJet 6L in brief…
This printer has been working with me from ages. I know it’s considered a bit old at the moment and the last time I logged to HP website, I found it was discontinued; however it’s a great printer with great functionalities.
I bough this printer about 4 years ago, when It was a hit in the market and hp was just offering it to the people, I think it was one of the most successful printers to the HP company. Anyway, I am writing this review to the people who liked to work with this printer as I suppose its hard to get one at the moment because its not for sale anymore, and also because there is new models that offer many vast and more functionalities than this printer with a reasonable price. And by the way my model type is C3990A (by the way it’s a black/white printer for those who don’t know).

Advantages: Slimline, only takes a few U's in the Rack. very reliable. Disadvantages: The new HP Smartstart is not as easy to understand as the original version.
...For those of you who aren't aware HP have taken over Compaq and rebadged compaq Servers with the HP badge.
This is just an upgrade to the Compaq Proliant DL380 G2.
You are still getting one of the most reliable servers in the industry for the right price.
They have also rectified the problem on the last model where there was only 4 bays for hard disks , there are now 6 bays, a FDD and a CD drive.
The server is a slimline model and for those of you who rack their servers, this is ideal as it only takes a few U in the rack.
I have built several of these without any real problems and all have been stable once built.
The only critisimn I can make is that Smartstart, a compaq utility to assist you in building these servers, has been rebadged, HP smartstart and given an overall and so far im not impressed, the screens don...
