HP Rack plinth

Advantages: Slimline, only takes a few U's in the Rack. very reliable.
Disadvantages: The new HP Smartstart is not as easy to understand as the original version.

...For those of you who aren't aware HP have taken over Compaq and rebadged compaq Servers with the HP badge. This is just an upgrade to the Compaq Proliant DL380 G2. You are still getting one of the most reliable servers in the industry for the right price. They have also rectified the problem on the last model where there was only 4 bays for hard disks , there are now 6 bays, a FDD and a CD drive. The server is a slimline model and for those of you who rack their servers, this is ideal as it only takes a few U in the rack. I have built several of these without any real problems and all have been stable once built. The only critisimn I can make is that Smartstart, a compaq utility to assist you in building these servers, has been rebadged, HP smartstart and given an overall and so far im not impressed, the screens don... Advantages: Lots of resource, processor power and expansion
Disadvantages: Price and extras needed.

...restraining arm. Size. Very large! It needs great depth in the rack and is best suited for HP cabinets. Shallow depth racks will not give you the clearance to close the doors on it. Software that comes with it is really limited to the Array software and principal set up software. This allows you to set up the hard disks into the RAID format you want should you so desire. Its quick and simple to set the disks exactly as you want them before installing the operating system. Uses? Well we use ours for running Virtualised servers. That means we can have lots of software servers running on 1 actual piece of hardware. To do this you need something with plenty of resources, processor power, disk space and memory. The G5 copes admirably with 5 servers running on it. Virtualisation means i can replace 5 physical servers with 1 new one. Fantastic... Read review

Advantages: Reliable well-built stable high-quality HP
Disadvantages: Expensive

...As part of my job I build, configure and maintain servers for small to medium sized business so have used a wide range of servers on a regular basis. The Proliant ML370 G4 like most HP servers is generally a well constructed, reliable server computer. I have used the lightning fast dual Xeon 3.02GHz version with standard 1GB of PC2-3200 DDR2 and as you might expect it runs quite nicely. The server case is quite robust and fits nicely into your rack if you put it together correctly! Our ML370 is currently running Windows 2003 SBS, Exchange 2003, BizTrack, Navision with still plently of processing power left over. Based on 50 users constantly access files over the network, emailing and using SQL server heavily it still seems to show room for expansion alongside the growth of the business.
