HP Rack shelf Graphite

Advantages: Slimline, only takes a few U's in the Rack. very reliable.
Disadvantages: The new HP Smartstart is not as easy to understand as the original version.

...For those of you who aren't aware HP have taken over Compaq and rebadged compaq Servers with the HP badge. This is just an upgrade to the Compaq Proliant DL380 G2. You are still getting one of the most reliable servers in the industry for the right price. They have also rectified the problem on the last model where there was only 4 bays for hard disks , there are now 6 bays, a FDD and a CD drive. The server is a slimline model and for those of you who rack their servers, this is ideal as it only takes a few U in the rack. I have built several of these without any real problems and all have been stable once built. The only critisimn I can make is that Smartstart, a compaq utility to assist you in building these servers, has been rebadged, HP smartstart and given an overall and so far im not impressed, the screens don... Advantages: Lots of resource, processor power and expansion

...restraining arm. Size. Very large! It needs great depth in the rack and is best suited for HP cabinets. Shallow depth racks will not give you the clearance to close the doors on it. Software that comes with it is really limited to the Array software and principal set up software. This allows you to set up the hard disks into the RAID format you want should you so desire. Its quick and simple to set the disks exactly as you want them before installing the operating system. Uses? Well we use ours for running Virtualised servers. That means we can have lots of software servers running on 1 actual piece of hardware. To do this you need something with plenty of resources, processor power, disk space and memory. The G5 copes admirably with 5 servers running on it. Virtualisation means i can replace 5 physical servers with 1 new one. Fantastic... Read review

Advantages: Colour, Good for the basics
Disadvantages: Bit Old, bit Bulky, Not Compatible with todays technology

...I have owned numerous of these over the years, and although they are no longer available from Compaq they can be picked up for very cheap on Ebay. This was a great PDA in its time, and could still be if you were able to upgrade the version of WinCE it runs. Itr still runs on WinCE 2.11 which has not been sold on any new PDAs for about 5 years. This doesn't sound like that critical an issue, since many PCs still run with Win 98. It is able to be docked with a PC, and can be useful as and address book and calender, but it isnt compatible with much else. I thought I would try to use it since it was otherwise just sitting on a shelf. I installed the latest (compatible) version of Windows Media Player and decided to buy a 128mb Compact Flash Card and try to turn it into a rather bulky MP3 player.
