Manufacturer's product description
Turn your HP LaserJet 1100 into a multifunction device with the Copy/Scan accessory. Made expressly for this laser printer, the accessory adds copying and scanning capabilities to the printer. The JetPath technology from Hewlett-Packard eliminates the speed and copy quality degradations found in many multifunction devices. This technology is code designed into the firmware, hardware and software to allow the printer to take on additional capabilities and improve functionality. The copier function lets users make copies with or without the PC on at speeds of up to 8 ppm at 600 dpi resolution. Copier settings include Reduce/Enlarge and Multi-copy adjustable from PC, and push-button (no PC required). The scan function allows users to scan hard-copy documents into electronic images for editing, filing, and sending by e-mail and PC fax. Scan documents at 300 dpi resolution, 600 dpi enhanced in grayscale. Use text mode, photo mode or combination mode for the best scan results of documents and images from 2x3.5 inches to 8.5x30 inches. The accessory feeds up to 20 sheets for more efficient copying and scanning. Hewlett-Packard offers a year bring-in limited warranty for this product.

Advantages: 3 in 1, stand alone photo copier Disadvantages: scanner lid doesnt have floating hinges
...already had a scanner but space is limited in my room so I decided to buy an all in one, such a good idea. I looked around at a lot of scanners, my budget was £100, which this was.
The printer is very good quality and comes with HP software for photo printing, editing and scanning. The scanner has good OCR text recognition much better than my old scanner; there are very few random symbols where letter aren't recognised. The only problem is that the lid hinge is fixed, hence it only close fully with a few sheets of paper in.
I print most documents in normal mode 600dpi, and rough work in fast normal 300dpi both give good quality printing.
The copier means you don't need to turn your computer on, plus no need to go to the effort of scanning and printing in a suitable resolution as this is done automatically.
A good replacement...
