Advantages: Um.....Compaitibility Disadvantages: Most of it
Windows ME may be out and most people will get this rather 98 SE, but I still have 98 SE and I need a place to moan about it, there are just too many faults.
Windows98 was the successor to Windows 95. It didn't change much, just a few new bits here and there, the usual claims of better performance and stability and new versions of programs. It was so crap that Microsoft had to release Windows98 Second Edition, which fixed all of the bugs and security issues of the first release. That's a great start surely, but wait - it doesn't end there! To fix a few more problems a fresh install of Windows98SE requires a trip over to Windows Update to download yet more 'Critical Updates', the likes of which left unchecked may let people gain control of your PC over the internet. Nice to know your PC's safe then!!
But then on the other hand ...

Windows98 is a good product, but I do not consider it to be great.
First some of the good points, the product is very easy to use and installing games/software has been improved a lot (since the days of DOS games). Also adding hardware is a lot simpler than it used to be. The Interface is very good and easy to use.
Now some of the bad points, windows98 is a very slow operating system, my pc now takes ages to boot up, it is not very reliable (crashes are quite frequent), masses of disk space is used for tons of files that I am sure I don't need.
This is a good product with no real competition at the moment (I await the Linux developments with Anticipation). ...

Windows98 is an easy to use and far better than before OS (operating system). If you are a user of Windows 95 and then upgrade to windows98 you will soon see the great difference in speed and performance.
Windows98 has many new features than its predecessors and is far quicker and better. I know that today there are many new versions of windows out so people may say that windows98 is past its day. This could be said as true but if you are still using an old PC then this is probably the best OS for you.
What's new:
If you're hoping that Windows '98 will revolutionize the way your computer runs, you'll have to wait until the next Windows update. If you're looking for a completely new desktop and interface, again, you'll have to wait. But if what you're looking for is a more stable Windows '95 with better compatibility ...
