Advantages: Cheerful way for my son to start his day Disadvantages: Too cheerful a way for my partner or I to star the day!
Hi-5 (The Australian version on channel 5), while not being my idea of a perfect way of spending my time, is a programme I am more than happy to allow my 2 year old to watch.
The presenters are consistently "perky". (I must admit to harbouring dark thoughts about their "perkiness" at 6:45 in the morning. )The energy each member of the team has is amazing and as their energy and enthusiasm mounts so does my sons. ...as a result both the performers and their audience have to use their imagination more which is something not actively encouraged with most kids programmes.
This simplicity continues through to the actual format of the show. Instead of having everyone on camera at once all the time, it is broken up into small skits/songs which makes it easier for the youngest of their fans to follow what is happening easily.

They have basic sets, basic costumes and as a result both the performers and their audience have to use their imagination more which is something not actively encouraged with most kids programmes.

The songs and dance routines are great and easy enough for my son to follow and mimick fairly comfortably - Even I can manage a small routine with him!
They focus on getting children active, encouraging them to use their imaginations, to be silly and to learn. What more could a parent ask from a kids programme.
Advantages: Starts early for early risers Disadvantages: can't get the kids away from the t.v.
My kids have been watching Milkshake more or less since Channel 5 started.
They have 2 lady presenters, one called Kemi and the other is Naomi who take it in turns to present the programmes and read out children's birthdays and show off birthday cards. They also announce any competitions that may be happening.
Milkshake (weekdays) starts around 6.30 which is brilliant if your child is an early riser. My kids watch it from 7am when they get up when their favourite programme, Hi5 (Australian) is on, after which time there is two episodes of Noddy and then at 8am just before they go to school, Bear in the Big Blue House and the programmes go right through to 9.20am.
On the weekends a man (I think this is is name) called Eddie presents the programmes with programmes for older children later on the mornings.
The presenters are ...

the school Hols when its on a bit later.
The format of the show is a programme then the presenter doing the birthday cards and emails..then a programme again.and so it goes on..
It has a few high profile shows on like
*Barney
*Bear in the big blue house
*Make way for Noddy
*Mr Men and Little Miss
It also has a few of its "own produced" shows Like
*Monkey Makes( where a presenter and a stuffed monkey make something)
Tickle,Patch and Freinds...( where 2 stuffed mice/rats????? have there own radio show and interview children and get up to mischief, they also visit farms and things)
Also a few other programmes, one namely

Its been imported from Australia, and its a group of 5 adults who sing and dance.they wear bright clothes

Advantages: Funny, witty, clever, great characters Disadvantages: None
I didn't watch the first series very avidly as I admit I wan't that keen on it. All the "Hi, I'm Ed Winchester" every 5 minutes I found extremely tedious.
However over the series' The Fast Show has developed into one of the comedy 'unmissables'. Thank goodness forUK Play who show repeats almost weekly.
Although funny, the characters are what drive the show; Bob Flemming, Ted and Ralf, Dave Angel, Competitive Dad (reminds me of hubby), the salatious tailors yeuch! All hillarious. Another favourite of mine, although not used in the later series was the pissed family - I thought that concept was really clever and never failed to have me giggling hysterically (I wasn't pissed you know!)
Though it is the sort of comedy program you either love or hate it has now risen to cult status. Don't know whether there are any more series ...
