Manufacturer's product description
Hi-Val's DVD-RAM drive offers you all the exciting capabilities of DVD recording technology at a price you can afford. DVD-RAM allows you to read at 2770KB per second (2X), record at 1385KB per second (1X), and even rewrite to DVD discs using a ''land groove'' format, which means it records signals on and in between the grooves formed on the disc. This technique enables DVD-RAM drives to provide a single-sided recording capacity of 2.6GB and a double-sided capacity of 5.2GB, which allows you to store even your largest files on one DVD disc, including high resolution photos, designs, videos, and even Web sites. Plus, this drive reads CD-ROMs at up to 3000KB per second (20X), so you can completely replace your old CD-ROM. The drive also comes with a RealMagic Hollywood Plus MPEG-2 DVD decoder card. This card allows you to play all DVD-videos, MPEG-2, and MPEG-1 interactive titles and supports both Dolby Digital's room-shaking surround sound, with its five audio channels and one subwoofer (5.1-channel audio), as well as 2-channel stereo analog audio. In addition, the RealMagic card allows you to control every aspect of your DVD movies - select camera angles, pan and scan viewing options, parental control features, and even the language in which you want to hear the film. The card is easy to install; if you are running Windows 95 or 98, your system will recognize it automatically as soon as you plug it in to your system.
