...- they can sometimes be fussy if you set them to Slave). If you know what you're doing, the OEM version is substantially cheaper than the retail package. Under Windows XP the drive is recognised and installed automatically.
Once up and running, the ND 3520A has proved fast, reliable and exceptionally quiet. It feels solidly constructed and a push of the chunky eject button brings the tray out quickly and smoothly. It's not all that much to look at; I bought the black version (no extra cost) and although it's completely inoffensive, the designers could have spent a little longer on smartening up the front panel.
The drive writes DVD+/- R/RW discs, as well as CD-Rs and -RWs. Using Datawrite CD and DVD media it has yet to produce a coaster in 5 months of fairly regular burning, averaging about 8-10 minutes for a full 4.7GB DVD.
