...of the teachers in my daughter's school, who more closely resemble Miss Lovely (Peter's teacher), but I have distant memories of my own primary school teacher who was just as fierce as Miss Oddbod. Again the reader has a lot of sympathy for Henry when he goes up against his teacher.
Horrid Henry's 2008 Annual
I bought this annual just before Christmas. It was on special offer - buy 2 annuals for £8. So, it cost just £4, which I felt was a bit of a bargain.
The annual is written by Francesca Simon (the author of the series of books) and illustrated by Tony Ross (who also illustrates the books). The contents page is very long, showing just how much they have managed to cram into this slim hard-backed annual. Advantages: Great read for younger teenage girls, easy to get into the series Disadvantages: Not so interesting for older teens (may prefer the Sweet Valley Senior Year/University books)
...I have nothing but good memories of all the Sweet Valley series books by Francine Pascal. From the ages of about 11 to 14/15, I was pretty much addicted to them (much to the disgust of my English teacher at the time!). Of the different series-Sweet Valley Kids, Twins, Junior High, High,Senior Year and University- the Sweet Valley High ones were probably my favourites.
Sweet Valley High books are based around the lives of 16-year-old Californian twin girls Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield and their friends at school. The twins have very different personalities: Elizabeth is more studious and sensible and dreams of being a writer, whereas Jessica is more funloving and adventurous.
