Advantages: Easily absorbed by the body, reduces infection, destroys free radicals Disadvantages: Bitter taste, too much can cause heartburn or diarrhoea, and it doesn't dissolve very easily in cold drinks
...that this could be bought inexpensively from Boots: 60g of pure ascorbic acid for £4 as the basic price, but frequently available on special offer at considerably less. It comes in a small white tub with an orange label on the side, and is usually shelved with other VitaminC products.
• Using the powder •
To use the powder, it has to be stirred into some kind of drink. Water is suggested on the container, but the taste is so bitter and acidic that I can't manage it that way. However it's quite acceptable in fruit juice; orange or pineapple are the best, in my experience. There's a tangy taste which is evident, but it's not unpleasant on the whole. It also works in orange or lemon squash. One gram of VitaminC (that's 1000mg) is about one third of a teaspoon, so it has to be measured reasonably carefully. You have to stir pretty...
