Higher Natures Starflower Oil offers a minimum of 204mg of GLA, an important Omega 6 fatty acid, which the body uses to help maintain hormone balance and optimum health.
Advantages: Much cheaper than boots, ingredients are identical Disadvantages: remembering to take them every day!
Hi
I have been taking 2 capsules of the StarflowerOil every day for almost 2 weeks and have noticed the difference with the PMT and bloated feeling that I have always suffered from before and during a period .
The StarflowerOil has definately improved the above and left me less moody and no cramp either so it cant be all bad.
You can also buy Tesco or Asda's own brand StarflowerOil for much cheaper than Boots.
Asda is selling 60 500mg capsules for £2.48 (Tesco is slightly higer at £1.50 for 30 500mg capsules).
I am using the Tesco ones at the moment and they are definately working for the better.
It is too early to say about the skin improvement, hair & nails however I have noticed that I am not as hungry (co-incidence, I am not sure yet) but I do feel much better than every other period I have had for the last two ...
Advantages: Reasonable price, great number of uses Disadvantages: Didn't work for me on dry skin
Starfloweroil- what a pretty name! I was never certain exactly what this was for and as with most things only tried this as it was recommended by a friend. I also have to say that I am horrendous at taking vitamin supplements as I always forget to take them everyday but I was determined to try this one out properly!
I decided to try Boots own to save myself a little bit of money just in case I didn?t like them. You get 60 capsules for £7.99 which is 13.3p per capsule so not too bad at all!
Borago officinalis (StarflowerOil to you and me!) is extracted from the annual herb Borage. The Starflower is a medicinal plant known to have been used worldwide in the research and treatment of cancer for over 700 years, as quoted by the Cancer Research Campaign, Registered Charity No 225838.
Now for the science bit!- StarflowerOil is rich ...
Advantages: Genuinely high Omega-3 fatty acid content and doesn't taste fishy. Disadvantages: Can seem quite expensive (though it is actually the best value for money we've found).
Myth: Because a product says it has 1000mg of fish oil, it has more Omega-3 than a 500mg capsule.
The Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil are EPA and DHA. If you read the back of most fish oil packs and total up the EPA and DHA you may well find that there is only about 120mg in a capsule - in our experience that's about the average, with a few products hitting the 300s.
The supplement market is therefore ripping off consumers by hiding behind the fish oil total and not explaining that if you are taking your fish oil for omega-3 then their product is actually quite weak.
In comparison the Nature's Best 1100mg fish oil contains nearly 700mg of omega-3 fatty acids and is the strongest one we can find on the market. Whilst the price may seem high compared to some other fish oil products, if you took enough of the other products ...
