...more versatile products are these Algae Wafers. The product was designed to feed plecostomus (plecs), which are bottom feeding fish, and any other algae eaters. Well I have 6 bronze corydoras (another bottom dweller) and so I decided to give them a go with these. The product itself is available in several different sizes: - 0.70 oz (20g) 1.41 oz (40g) 2.89 oz (80g) 8.80 oz (250g) 2.2 lb (1kg) I purchased the 40g packet, which cost me £3.95, ......where you can see the algae wafers themselves. The reverse of the packet is very informative indeed with features, instructions on feeding, ingredients and nutritional analysis all provided in extensive detail. The algae wafer itself is disc shaped about 2cm in diameter and are slightly concave in appearance. They appear slightly green and grainy, but this is unsurprising, as they are mainly comprised of vegetable matter. They also contain in abundance ... Read review

...last ditch effort we tried Hikari Cichlid Gold pellets. We noticed that instead of just two sizes of pellets offered as in most brands, they offered four--large, medium, mini and baby sizes. Also these pellets floated instead of sinking which even if your fish don't bite the first time, they were still there later which encourages them to consume later. This is great as we all know left over food rotting causes havoc in a tank. Plus it doesn't cloud ......a steal to but the Hikari Gold pellets and supplement with feeder fish occasionally. The package is a red plastic bag with a zipper lock top to help keep the pellets free from moisture and even includes an expiration date. According to the date my pellets are good for 7 years. I could buy in bulk if I wanted to and save even more money with the knowledge that Kyori would guarantee it's product after such an investment. The trick, of course, is getting ... Read review
Advantages: Packed with nutrients, complete food, don't cloud the tank water Disadvantages: None at all
...as algae. This is where algae pellets and wafers come in. Hikari Algae Wafers were launched in 1991. Before this time, "pleco food" simply didn't exist and poor plecostomus were getting malnourished. Hikari researched raw materials and developed the best "recipe" possible. They then developed this recipe into the revolutionary disk shape wafer which remains stable in the water and allows Mr Pleco to graze naturally. This also means they won't cloud ......algae wafers are disk shaped and slightly concave on one side, they are a dark, leafy green colour and are about 1.5 centimetres in diameter. The shape of the wafers were specifically designed by Hikari to suit the mouth of the plecostomus. They are made from high levels of vegetable matter that is perfectly suited for plecostomus and other algae eaters dietary needs. It is a complete and balanced food for your plecostomus and you can be sure that ... Read review
Advantages: Great for plecs, well designed packaging Disadvantages: Limited use if you don't have a plec, my other fish don't touch it.
Hikari Algae Wafers. These are thin discs of various vegetable matters. They are for fish that live on or near the bottom of the tank. I have a large number of Farlowella catfish, along with a bullnose plec and a clown plec. But you will already know this if you have been following my previous ramblings (Blatant plug, Sorry). These fish all love these, and the game of chase you see when one of the fish suck onto the wafer and swims around with it ......else you can say about algae wafers. Just that if you have a fish with a sucker instead of a mouth, you can’t go far wrong. I have got a couple of stainless steel wires that I put cucumber slices on and dangle them on a piece of fishing line to the bottom of the tank, replacing it with new when just the green outer part is left. This is the one of the only things my plecs like more than these wafers. But the wafers have more vitamins put in ... Read review

Algae wafers, sound appetising don’t they, well my fish think they are. I must admit to purchasing these on a bit of a whim, I had a credit note (from the sale of some fish) with a couple of pounds left to spend on it. So I bought these Hikari algae wafers, the small pack (which is a resealable sachet), that I purchased cost me £1.45 and lasted me 3 months. Looking like a green disc shaped tablet, they contain mainly vegetable matter, with ......these into my aquarium, my algae eating fish (Plecs and Otocinclus) come out of hiding to eat, but not only are they eaten by the algae eaters, but also by my other fish (Loache’s, Angel’s, Keyhole’s and Tetra’s). So it would seem that a variety of species enjoy these wafers. These are feed together with a balanced tropical flake mix, and the occasional piece of potato or peas, plus some live foods to add a bit of variety ... Read review
