The screen

Its quite small & as the other reviewers pointed out, now that we are getting used to flat-screen tvs & monitors, the convex screen may seem old-fashioned & not so comfortable.

This is not a living-room telly. I am short-sighted, but with glasses I can see the screen fairly well from a distance of around 8 feet (sat in my bed lol) & this is fine for a bedroom. I would say however, for a larger room or any further away the normal sighted person may have trouble seeing the screen clearly & it can be annoying when there are important details on the programme you are watching that you can't make out. Other than this, the picture quality is absolutely fine.

You can adjust brightness etc. using the remote. There are 5 different picture modes, including one for music only channels, 'soft' - less light, 'standard', 'rich' - where you have more light, & 'user', which is basically customised by you.

The screen sometimes takes a moment to come on, but I read somewhere in the instructions there is a good reason for this.

Sound quality

This is fairly clear & there is a good volume range, so that I can watch tv quietly whilst my parents are asleep next door & also turn up the volume to be able to hear it over other noises like hairdryers & the vacuum (although yes I really shouldn't do that).

Remote control

This has rubber buttons that are quite large with different shapes & sizes for buttons making it easy to use. Its quite simple & easy to use since there aren't that many features anyway. I often forget where the mute button is, which is annoying because you can easily accidentally touch it. Luckily most of the keys take a bit more pressure to press so probably mine just plays up.

Connections

I have bought a freeview digibox, which I connected quite easily to the tv. I've not needed to connect anything else because I'm happy with the sound etc. but theres also a video connection.

Extra features

There is an incorporated DVD player, which I have used a great deal & so far had no problems with. You can open it by the remote or at the telly. It sometimes takes a few seconds to start up but is very easy to use.

You get an outdoor ariel - flimsy circular thing. Not very good. It doesn't stand alone very well & for a small room (which the tv is clearly designed for) it is awkward to place. You can just about balance it on the tv but its impractical to be honest. I got dodgy reception, even though I was using the outdoor in the city. Better to connect it with a cable if you can (& I do now).

The manual

You get a 'TV Quick Start Guide' - an A4 piece of paper with the basics for switching on the tv, using the dvd player & the remote control buttons; plus a booklet with more detailed information, which, to be honest, I have only flicked through the pages of once. This has all the usual safety information as well as tuning & other functions. It has plenty of diagrams & is fairly readable.

Over-all

Apart from a few minor problems, its a good t.v. Its fairly lightweight & easy to move around plus its cheap. For me it fits its purpose & its lasted me a good 4 years so far. Looks fairly durable so I expect it to be with me for some time yet. Good first television for students etc.
