I first started feeding my cats Hills Science Plan Feline Maintenence when there was on offer in Petsmart for a free bag in exchange for empty tins of cat food. This was a very good offer, but now one of my cats will eat basically nothing but Hills.
While it seems like a lot to shell out - £11 for a 2Kg sack, if you follow the recommended feeding plan, the daily cost is less than feeding tinned food.
The food will keep for a while once opened as long as stored in dry cool conditions, and is easy to handle being just pellets. The recent replacement of the wax paper bag with a resealable top plastic one is good as it keeps the food from picking up moisture.
To sum up - the food is good and well liked by both my cats and the neighbour's one who sneaks in from time to time; just stick to the recommended feeding quantities if any of your cats like to snack!
****Update****
Squeaky, the cat who would eat nothing but Hills, has reached the grand weight of 7 Kg due to over indulgence on her favourtie food. The Vet has recommended she go on to Hills Prescription R/D food (R/D - Reducing Diet) She still likes the biscuits, but eats less of them and she does seem to be slimming down a little. R/D is a higher fibre, lower calorie food with L Carnitine added to help breakdown existing fat stores (Squeaky has plenty of these) She still tucks into them well, but they seem to fill her up more than the regular or light feline maintenance. At the end of the bag she will be due for a weigh-in and we will see whether it has had the desired effect. Slight drawback - R/D is more expensive than maintenance (£14ish for 2 Kg, £28ish for 5Kg), only has one variety and is only available from the vet.

Advantages: It seems to last longer, it is cheaper in the long run and there is no mess or waste Disadvantages: Can have side effects for some cats, cause overweight and kidney problems, expensive
