A whole ago, OK, a long while ago, I wrote this article/review about Hills food as it was highly recommended by our vet. The fact that he insisted on how good this kind of dried food was and also due to the fact that it seemed to save us money I was convinced that it was the best solution for our cats feeding problems….
But since then we’ve lost one of our cats due to ‘sudden kidney problems’ which the vet could not explain as it had checked him OK only a couple weeks ago, our other cat grew fatter and fatter and looked more like a football in thick fur and at the same time he developed sever kidney problems. Not only him but also our carpet, chairs, bed, sofa started to suffer as he seemed not to manage to get to a litter tray on time as he had to keep going every couple of minutes.
As at the same time both our cats seemed to be very lethargic, couldn’t stop eating and seemed to prefer to sleep all day and night, I started suspecting that their feeding might had something to do with it. Our vet couldn’t be convinced otherwise and he kept saying that there was no connection between Hills biscuits and my cat’s kidney problems. As long as they were drinking enough water there was nothing to worry about…
But I had my doubts for this kind of dried food so I’ve decided to ignore him and go back to the old days of feeding them normal biscuits and Felix individuals pouches…
It’s being a few months now and both cats are back to their normal selves, energetic, chasing each other, breaking things, climbing all over my computer and ‘helping’ me when I’m working, like normal cats tend to do! My elderly cat has no more kidney problems, he is quite healthy and he has lost a lot of weight and both they are driving us mad because they seem to want to play when we want to go to sleep…
As the vet didn’t think that the food had anything to do with the problems our cats were experiencing I can’t say for certain that the Hills was the cause but it is a bit suspicious that both the cats seem to be perfectly OK and stopped having problems as soon as they stopped eating the staff. So if you are feeding your cats Hills be aware that it might not be ‘that good’ for them after all…

It would appear there is a problem manifesting itself now with a premium dry food that is causing all sorts of problems during pregnancy with Birmans. Poeple mess to much with foods for cats ..Baz

useful warning here - don't always trust your vet! Dave

Hi and welcome to Ciao. A good first opinion that would probably be more useful to me if I had a cat! Keep up the good work, Paul.
Advantages: complete food, seems well balanced, easy to store and serve Disadvantages: Can be addictive, causing cats who snack to gain weight, High initial outlay.
