I contacted Hinari, basically to tell them of my displeasure with these particular units. Despite sending three e-mails over a period of a month with photographs attached, and making a telephone call to them they have failed to reply.

(+) delicious recipes, easy and flexible to use, pizza, rye, seed, cake and roll options (-) blade getting stuck in bread, need to be at home when cycle finishes
Advantages: If you get a good one the bread is great Disadvantages: We made one good one out of two bad ones.
We purchased the HBM230 on the 19th January 2006 from Amazon.co.uk and soon received a factory sealed box containing our new machine.
On initial inspection we found a scratch mark on the control panel and also noticed that the inside metal liner of the unit was badly fitted leaving a gap between the front left hand-side corner and outer casing. Also it was noticed that when the lid interior was viewed in the raised position there is a score mark ... ...to the lid. This machine is in worse cosmetic condition than units owned by us for several years. dispite this we thought we would give it a try. After making our second loaf I noticed that one of the 'dogs' that engages into the drive mechanism for the paddles appeared to rotate rather freely around the shaft before transmitting any movement to the paddle. Advantages: Can bake a 2.5lb loaf Disadvantages: The recipes given with the instruction book are too salty
...flour and water. (The Hinari recipe book usefully is in both imperial and metric measures and I can use a measuring jug and scales instead of the fiddly plastic measure which they give you)
The breadmaker takes up a fair bit of room on a worktop but I think that is a small price to pay for a good-sized normal-looking loaf. It is easy to clean and very quiet compared to others I have used (maybe it's the twin paddles).
One other point is that it ... ...to mix which gave me a bit of a scare when I first used it and sent me to read the instruction book more carefully to try and identify why it wasn't working!
All in all I am really pleased with this model and would definitely recommend it (even at full price).

Am about to contact the manufacturer as the paddles have started to work unevenly so that a large amount of flour accumulates and is not mixed in. This can be sorted ...
