This was my first Modular designed power supply, and what a corker it is. The first thing to note is the toolbox designed carry case, which houses the power supply and each type of cable in seperated compartments. Handy for the system builder to reuse as a storage box for all the smaller parts of a computer. Out of the box, the PS stand s out in its anodised colours (Blue in my case, with a mirror finish, on 3 sides and airated pressed ali on the others, for good air flow. Speaking of which integrated in the machine are 1x120mm fan, and an 80mm fan LED lit to provide an extra element when installed. My only gripe at this point is that the case can easily distort in a tight case, pushing the rear 80 mm fan onto the outer casing of the 120mm fan producing a hell of a din. Not a problem where the power supply is held firmly in place and supported in the case (My thermaltake actually pulled the rear of the power supply out of shape when screwed into place , causing the noise). Make sure it sits naturally and you'll have no problems. The cables are something else. All sleeved and colour coded to the case, terminating with the desired interface at one end and chromed screw in connectors for the PS end. Unlike other modular power supplies, the screw in connectors are positive and can take a good amount of abuse, still providing a positive connection. Included are varying length 4 pin molex connections and 2 way splitters to connect to drives etc using the standard 4 pins. It allows for these to be connected without having to cut back the cables or hiding the excess behind the rear panel. Also there are 4 pin to 2 SATA adaptors, and 1 PCI-E 6 pin connector which connects directly to the PS. For those with SLI, there is a 2x4 pin to 1x6pin PCI-E adaptor. Basically install the cables required leave the rest out.
Fitted into a case with side window, it looks clean, providing a nice blue glow in the top of the machine, also with the cables sleeved and routed neatly, it allows for a decent air flow.
Performance is what you would expect from a £60 power supply. Stable, with very little in the way of fluctuation from the preset voltages even under full load (12v running at 12.12v), even running 4 drives, 7 fans, and a multitude of LEDs.
So there you have it, apart from the small gripe (Which is really down to my case), an outstanding modders power supply, at a pretty reasonable price.
