Advantages Good flavour, tasty

Disadvantages None

I am weaning my 5 month old son at the moment and it is going really well. He seems to like just about every fruit and vegetable that I am putting in front of him, with maybe the exception of cauliflower that he wasn't so keen on but still ate happily. I like to make all of my baby food because that way I know its fresh and what has gone into it but when we are out and about on day trips I think its a lot easier and a lot more hygienic to take jars of baby food with us. Some of my favourite jars are from The Hipp Organic range. I like the fact that they are organic and that on the jars they say that, "our finest organic ingredients are picked at the peak of ripeness and individually steam cooked to give you delicious baby food bursting with goodness and flavour.

Recently my husband bought a variety of jars for my little boy as we were going away for a few days and he wanted to have enough food for him on our holiday. One of the flavours he picked up for him was sweet squash and chicken. Butternut squash is one of the favourites that I make for my little boy so I thought this would be a good choice as I know he already likes squash. Plus, at this important weaning stage I think its really important to try as many flavours as you can with your little ones so they end up liking everything you put in front of them at an older age.

This jar is suitable for 4+ months and this is written at the top of the jar. I think before there used to be stages written on the jars but now it is in months which is a lot easier to understand and decipher in my opinion. On the front of the jar is a photo of some lovely looking fresh sliced chicken and halves of butternut squash as well as so carrots. The flavour is described as rice and chicken simmered with squash, carrots and fruits. By looking at the list of ingredients I can see the fruits are apricots and apples. The mixture is a light orange colour and doesn't not have any lumps in it. It has been blended very well obviously because it is for babies just four months old so it needs to be very smooth and easy for them to swallow and process. The mixture has a bit of thickness to it and quite a nice smell although I have not tried it myself, I just can't bring myself to eat baby food! My little boy really liked this one and his finished the jar so its definitely one I will feed him again. The jar costs in the 70p region and is good value as we can get two meals out of it.
