Great for a child who loves walking but can't manage too much

We had a huge dilemma when looking at the Hippychick hip seat. Onthe one hand our son was just beginning to exert his independence and wanted to walk everywhere but couldn't as he didn't have the stamina! The seat looked great but i didn't know anyone who had one and there were only a couple of reviews on here at the time so i couldn't make a firm decision. We had had baby carriers which were good but honestly neither i or my husband could be bothered faffing around with them. What i liked about the seat was it was just a lift on , lift off job.
We went ahead and bought the seat and honestly i can say it was the most worthwhile baby thing i have bought - and i have bought a few!! Whenever we go somewhere whether it is shopping, down to the beach, to friends, etc. i just pop on the belt and find it is very comfortable minus baby (ok so everyone thinks you are wearing a bumbag which is not great but get over that and it's good!) then when my son gets tired i can just lift him on. he generally stays there for 10 or 15 minutes and then hops down again. On the few occasions he has been really really tired i have had him on my hip for in excess of an hour. I admit that my arm has got very tired but if, as you are putting the seat on, you breathe in and tighten it you do not get the same pain in your hip - in that respect it is comfortable. It may be just me as i am a bit of a wimp but the ache in my arm is the only downside i have had and that is minor. we have walked to the swimming pool and had to use the seat on the way back as my little boy was tired and i had no problems then- that was about a half hour walk.
The seat does seem expensive at almost £35 but trust me it is worth it. Our reasoning when we bought it was that the resale value on ebay is good so it didn't matter if we didn't like it but there is no way we will sell it - If we need to store it it takes up hardly any room and it is great for travelling, no more lugging prams on buses or trains. we also used it when we flew and it was fab because we used the buggy for our hand luggage!!! It even counts as extra hand luggage so you don't have to stow it away.
All in all i am extremely happy with my hip seat (as you can tell) and would definitely replace it if it got lost. It seems a lot of money but i think it si worth it - and, having a giercely independent son, it is nice to get a few bonus cuddles when i can!
Just thought i should add a comment that my son, while being only 1 is not the lightest child around!! Apparently the blurb reckons it's good for kids up to age 3
