Advantages: Another brilliant installment of Sharpe's adventures Disadvantages: Stretches credibility slightly
...excitement I started to read Sharpe's Trafalgar.
I must admit I wasn't disappointed with the book, as Sharpe continues to be the swashbuckling hero of the Pennisular Wars, whether on sea or dry land!
Although this book does stretch credibility slightly (one man being in every major battle), there is a truth in it (read the author's notes at the end of the book for an explanation), it does tie the whole seriers together rather nicely.
It tells ... ...he gets involved in the battle of Traflagar, meets Nelson and how he falls for the wrong girl (as he always manages to do!) and be the hero we have come to know and love. To tell you anymore will spoil the plot and ruin a brilliant read.
As with all of Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe series, this book is factually and historically correct (within the bounds of a fictional story anyway), and the narrative regarding conditions aboard ship are fascinating ...

Advantages: Great look into the hundred years war Disadvantages: None that I can honestly think of
I am about a third the way through this book at present and find I cannot put it down. I have a strong interest in the period Bernard Cornwell is writing about here (hundred years war between England and France following an English Longbowman) and find this book extremely authentic and a pleasure to read. He describes clothing, weapons and armour brilliantly and is not scared to tell it like it was (as much as we can possibly know anyway) thwarting ... ...this book to anyone who enjoys the medieval period or to anyone who enjoys fiction in general as it is packed with colourful characters, action and humor. This is also the first of three and so I look forward to finishing this and reading the next two which I have already bought. ...
