The Kite Runner
Review of The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini by
Spottydog11
Advantages: A must read!
Disadvantages: Not for kids due to some content
The Kite Runner
One of the best books I have read all year and a truly wonderful story. The Kite Runner is a 2003 book written by Khaled Hosseini and was his debut novel. It tells the story of a young boy called Amir. He is growing up in 1970's Afghanistan and faces many trials and tribulations. At first he lives a fairly great looking life on the surface of it. His father is well off and they live in a big pink house away from all the run down ... ...Amir then resolves to win the local kite fighting tournament and hopefully prove he can be a man to his father. Hassan helps him in his quest but events after the tournament change their lives forever.
When Russian forces invade Afghanistan Amir and his father flee to America and so the story continues with tales of their new lives there and Amir's eventual trip back to Afghanistan to face the demons of his past.
I know we hear about Afghanistan ...

The Boleyn Inheritance
Review of The Boleyn Inheritance - Philippa Gregory by
thelittle_one
Advantages: sucks you right into the story
Disadvantages: none by my account.
...feel like a part of the story. She does this by creating a unique atmosphere that only she seems to be able to achieve where the Tudor Court is concerned. Along with this, by allowing you to delve right into the minds of her characters you cant help but feel for them and understand thier situation.
i felt that the Boleyn Inheritance portrayed the life of little Kitty Howard very well and is actually very sad as it shows how she was really just a ...

Tear jerker!
Review of Innocent Traitor - Alison Weir by
Jodpher123
Advantages: Historically accurate
Disadvantages: Can be dry in places
The key to Alison Weir's sucess for me was her ability to maintain historical acccuracy whilst still keeping the reader sufficiantly entertained with a little bit of drama. She brings to life this often forgotten character in history, Lady Jane Grey, Queen of England for only 9 days, through the intimate thoughts and opinions of the main character and those around her such as her mother, father, nurse and even her executioner! Expect to shed a tear ...

This will have you "Turning In Your Grave!!!
Review of The Resurrectionist - James Bradley by
kath66-2008
Advantages: A total page turner.
Disadvantages: Can be graphic
Whilst browsing in the book aisle in my local Tesco I spotted this novel and thought it looked interesting. It was one of Richard and Judy's Summer Reads selections, so I decided I'd buy it. I hadn't previously heard of the author, but the front cover had a look of gothic Horror and the macabre. Once started I found it very difficult to put down.......
**A BRIEF SYNOPSIS** too avoid giving away too much.....

A firemaster and Princess in turmoil.
Review of The Principessa - Christie Dickason by
Mistybrook
Advantages: Engaging.
Disadvantages: None.
Christie Dickason brings the characters of the Principessa to life in this engaging novel that is a mix of romance and adventure.
The firemaster Francis Quoynt is forced to go to La Spada when Robert Cecil takes out a loan in the King's name from the Prince of La Spada who is close to dying and is suffering from madness. When he reaches La Spada believing the Prince wants him to do funeral fireworks for when he dies he finds out that the mad Prince ... ...cannot take his eyes off The Principessa the ruler of La Spada's daughter who is trying to win her place on the throne before her half brother has her killed so that no one stops him from acquiring the throne.
I actually believed that La Spada and the characters exsisted before I read the last chapter in the book, Ms Dickason is as gifted in her historical fiction as Philippa Gregory is. ...
