History Channel: Battle for the Pacific (PC)

...Two years ago Microsoft released the capable, if underwhelming Combat Flight Simulator. The game wasn't that bad but didn't hold up well compared to other more aggressive releases of the time. Microprose's European Air War garnered the most respect from the die-hard simulation crowd while Jane's WWII Fighters made a favorable impression on the less demanding audience. Though most reviewers felt strongly that Combat Flight Simulator 1 was the weakest of the three titles, Microsoft's distribution channel kept it on store shelves long after the competition faded. The decision to follow up with a Pacific theater setting was quite easy. It seems absolutely ludicrous that two years ago publishers produced eight WWII sims set in Europe and zero set in the Pacific. You can conclude the peace treaty and finish of the opponent by the pacific means, depriving its capability to do business, which one in the new game has gained specially large value. Now gold cannot be (procured in mines: its alone source - trade. Than further your trade partners (farthest outside a card), the are more than gold they to you will bring. Certainly, here again will not do without skirmishes, so that caravans in far countries should be sent under protection of army. The role of the farmers will increase, but at the same time their vulnerability will be increased also. What still? The military model hardly has changed. So, the group units can change the formation (as in Myth), the vulnerability of squad will be allowed at sudden attacks from back and flanks. The sea battle on becomes much more... Read review
