This is certainly no top-of the range stereo - but I like it. It's the sort of player you could have in the kitchen so you can listen to the football or radio to whilst cooking the Sunday roast in a pinny. it looks good and the sound is fine for the price. Sure it can be a bit fiddly but it does the jon without too much fuss.
The unit has a mirrored finish with a silver tape deck (any one still use?). The speakers are wood effect (probably a certain type but woods just wood to me) with an oversized woofer to give it a bit more of a perful stance. It looks - nice. The digital display gives it a blue glow.
It can play tapes (as if), cd's or, and this was the thing that attracted me to it, you can pop your mp3 player or SD card into it. The radio is a bit limited with just am and fm but it does for me.
There is an array of buttons on the front to control the function selection, tuning and track selection and a panel pops out at the bottom to control the tape. It's all fairly straight forward.
The speakers pump out 20W which is a fair amount for the size and price. The sound quality isn't too bad either. The base is there. definitely but I think the buffs would turn their noses up at it.
I do have a slight problem with the tuner. The reception is poorer than other radios in the house. Am has a separate antennae which plugs into the back and you can move it around but it can take a bit of fiddling. When you have got reception you can save it as a pre-set. It has got RDS if you're into that sort of thing.
Turning the unit round shows you nothing other than where to plug in the speakers. There is a stereo aux jack bit it isn't even clearly labelled. If your likely to want to play the telly through it you could be disappointed with the results!
The unit as it sits on the sideboard has the dimensions 43cm (h)x 23cm (d)x26cm(h) - so not too big then. This is measure with the speakers attached - you can detach them if you so desire and separate them on the 1.5m cables.
Did I forget to mention there is a phono port on the front :-)
Overall I've had no problems with this unit. It is what it is which is a fairly loud, easy to use little midi.
