Advantages: lightweight, good suction, inexpensive, well-built Disadvantages: difficult to empty, gets very hot
...CV790. It cost about £40, which seemed eminently reasonable, it was fairly lightweight (4.2kg, apparently) and Hitachi was a name we knew as producing reliable, well-built products.
* Appearance *
I have to admit that the appearance of a vacuum cleaner isn't the most important thing to me! Nevertheless, this model is a reasonably attractive purple-blue colour. Other than that, there's nothing much to distinguish it from any other small canister model. The body comes in two parts: the motor in one end, the dirt collected in the other.
* Instructions *
There was a small instruction manual which covers all operation of the machine. However we haven't needed to use this, since it works as expected, and so far nothing has needed to be repaired.
* Facilities *
There's a good long section of hose, with extra snap-on plastic...

Advantages: Great suction , bagless . Disadvantages: Slightly awquard to use.
...Having replaced our downstairs carpet with laminate flooring , it was noticed that our upright cleaner was up to the job , and also marked the flooring , so a cylinder cleaner was sought .
We chose the CV810 , advertised in Argos / Index as a 1300 unit.
When unboxed , it was noticed to be a 1400 , upgraded by Hitachi at no extra cost .
The CV810 was in the intermediate price market , and similar models have been available for quite a while now . We personnaly went for this model as it was bagless , and of a known manufacturer .
Suction is great , with edge to edge cleaning from the supplied tool . Addition tools can be found on the underside of the vacumn , and are the standard nozzle and brush/ furniture type. A useful compartment full indicator is present and easily readable . This however after a while give false readings due...

Advantages: Small cheap and effective Disadvantages: Very messy when emptying
...I spent hours in a shop trying to decide which vacuum cleaner to buy. I ended up going for this one mainly because it was a good price, well known brand and powerful. I was a little bit worried that it was so small in it's box but I'm pleased to say that it's performance is fantastic. It's very light and easy to manouver and works well on carpets and wooden floors. It's size means that it doesn't hog all the room in the cupboard either!
It doesn't use bags, which I thought would save a lot of hassle. The body of the vacuum splits into two so that you can empty it. However I have found it quite difficult to pull apart and when you do manage it, dust spills everywhere. It's impossible to empty it without making a mess. But hey, you can always clean up the mess after!
If I had the money, I'd buy a dyson but the HitachiCV 790...
