required for mission-critical enterprise computing environments. Leveraging the proven system architecture and electronics of the previous generation, the Ultrastar 15K300 is the ideal solution for demanding enterprise computing environments like online transaction processing, intensive data analysis and other multi-user applications. The mature design of the Ultrastar 15K300 helps to ensure shorter qualification times. Key reliability features have been built into the Ultrastar 15K300. Rotational Vibration Safeguard (RVS) technology ensures drive performance in multi-drive systems where rotational vibration is likely to occur. Hitachi's Thermal Fly-height Control (TFC) capability maintains a consistent fly-height during the read/write process ensuring a better soft error rate and end-to-end data protection enhances error detection for optimal data integrity. Finally, Hitachi offers the only enterprise-class hard drive utilizing a head load/unload ramp to help minimize drive failures as a result of handling during integration.

Advantages: Fast and Silent, Easy SATA installation, Two flavours to choose from Disadvantages: Dismal performance
...Maxtor are one of the 3 leading harddrive manufacturers in the personal and business computing market at the moment along with Western Digital and Hitachi. They are also the cheapest. Unfortunately, the saying that price doesn't equals quality is true here. Too true.
The 160GB version of the DiamondMax Plus9 can be purchased online from around £51.00 onwards. And with the way harddrive prices have fallen recently, that's not bad at all. But as I said, you're getting cheap quality to match the cheap price.
The drive itself looks very similar to any other harddrive, and comes in both IDE ATA/133 and SATA 150 flavours, with the SATA ones easier to configure due to their jumperless installations.
My personal experience with this drive has been short. I first purchased this drive to use in my first ever custom-built computer...

Advantages: Quick Tranfer Rate, High Capacity, Low Price Disadvantages: Reasonably Big, Not USB Powered
...I bought this external harddrive a week ago from Maplin for £90. I bought this because of its 300GB size, and because it was an extremely good price for the size.
Seagate have a very good reputation for a good quality product for a reasonably good price. It came very quickly, and I saw that it came with BounceBack for backing up files. I installed it and connected the harddrive to my PC. The Seagate was found straight away, and it opened up in My Computer. I closed the window, and I opened up the BounceBack.
The first time you run it, it asks you to select if you want to backup 'My Documents' and your program files, or just 'My Documents'. After this is done, it does a pre-backup to find out how big the backup will be. Once this is done, it starts backing up what you selected. You can make the window smaller and use you...
