required for mission-critical enterprise computing environments. Leveraging the proven system architecture and electronics of the previous generation, the Ultrastar 15K300 is the ideal solution for demanding enterprise computing environments like online transaction processing, intensive data analysis and other multi-user applications. The mature design of the Ultrastar 15K300 helps to ensure shorter qualification times.Key reliability features have been built into the Ultrastar 15K300. Rotational Vibration Safeguard (RVS) technology ensures drive performance in multi-drive systems where rotational vibration is likely to occur. Hitachi's Thermal Fly-height Control (TFC) capability maintains a consistent fly-height during the read/write process ensuring a better soft error rate and end-to-end data protection enhances error detection for optimal data integrity. Finally, Hitachi offers the only enterprise-class hard drive utilizing a head load/unload ramp to help minimize drive failures as a result of handling during integration.
Hitachi delivers high capacity and a diversity of interface options required for today's evolving high-performance storage market. An innovator in storage technology, Hitachi offers a full line of 2.5 and 3.5-inch products with both high capacity and diversity of interface options for high throughput operating environments, such as network and Internet servers, multimedia production and digital video processing.

...Excellent HardDrive. I used to have a Maxtor 40Gbharddrive and after getting broadband I realised I needed much more capacity.
I decided to go for an Hitachi/IBM Drive because I work in IT industry and I am particularly involved in mainframes and I am aware that Hitachi are extremely rigorous when it comes to releasing new drives, for a new type of drive to be released by Hitachi it has to survive in a mainframe environment. Hitachi has an extremely good reliability rate at mainframe level. Hitachi have used the latest technology to ensure that their drives maintain good reliability like a Head Load/Unload system which means that the drive will not wear itself out when not in operation.
In comparison to other 7200rpm drives the Deskstar come out on top in terms of its seek time, which allows faster access to data. It also...

Advantages: Fast, Sata, Quite Cheap, Reliable Disadvantages: Have to use Hitachi Software to Enable Sata II
...I was looking for something fast with a lot of storage for my new gaming PC that most of all I could rely on; I chose this drive because Hitachi is a big brand and one that has a good reputation for reliability. I managed to pick up this drive for £44 inc. VAT which is a complete steal for a Hitachidrive.
If you buy the retail version you will get a 130 page instruction manual with every little detail about the drive in it as well as all the screws, cables etc but to be honest your much better off buying a OEM version which is identical but doesn't have all the nice packaging and screws etc so you end up saving about £15 or more.
The installation is as easy as any other harddrive, just plug in the power and S-ata cables and your away. The only downside with this is to enable s-ata II which gives you a much faster transfer speed you...
