Price This was a mega bargain from Currys in the January sales 2007 - it was half price I paid £19.99 and this is a great price for a fantastic steamer. Original prise £39.99
History I have had a steamer for about 2 years - the first one purchased was a 2 tiew small one and cost £12. We wanted to buy a newer bigger model as we love having steamed vegetables.
Asthetics The Steamer has a chrome and black base and the 3 tiers of clear plastice (I think all of them are), The steamer fits in well with my other gadgets especially as I have stainless everywhere and this was one of the deciding factors when buying this (I don't think we would have brought it even at this bargain price if it was white).
Steaming You take the tiers off and fill the base with water ( I would think you could add at least a pint of water). There is a window on the front where you can easily see the water level so you can add more water if you need to. When you add more water (with the size of the water well I have never had to top it up) there is a funnel at the rear and so you don't have to take the steaming vegetables off the top and risk scolding yourself. You can add 1,2 or all 3 of the tiers amd then turn the 60 minute timer on (this can be varied depending on the products or how much). There is also a chart on the front with some sample steaming times - this should be used as a guide only as it depends on the thickness / size of the products you're steaming.
The Timer The timer can be set for up to 60 minutes and has an auto switch off (just in case you forget about the food).
What is included in the box The base with a 3 pin plug, a drip tray - this collects any water that has turned from the steam used, 3 tier bowls which have holes in the base to allow the steam to penetrate through the tiers and the products being steamed, an instruction booklet which tells you how long different types of veggetables, fish and fruit etc take to cook.
Cleaning The bowls are dishwasher safe however as I use the steamer most days I find it quicker and easier to do these by hand, sometimes little particles of food can get wedged firmly in the holes at the bottom of each bowl.
Verdict In my opinion this is the king of all steamers, perfect for a large family but is still useful for a couple of people, all vegetables are cooked but not over cooked and all the goodness is still remaining unlike biling. Would I buy another one? I certainly would - I couldn't manage without my steamer and I would buy the same one.
