Hitachi's customer warranty claims support is like no other that I have come across before. You go onto there website, fill out a warrant claim form; package the device (hard disk in my case) in the way they require. Once you have sent it to them and they receive, you will get a notice from them saying that they have accepted you drive for warranty replacement. When they have verified that you disk can be claimed under warranty, they will send you out a disk of equal, higher specification or a repaired disk. I received a 100gb hard disk, as mine could not be repaired.
