hard drive. It delivers double the capacity and a 22% performance improvement over its predecessor. Despite the higher spin speed, the 7K200 offers comparably low power consumption, heat emission and acoustics to its 5400 RPM counterparts, so users don't have to trade off battery life or audio quality for high performance. In addition, with its higher shock specifications, Travelstar 7K200 is designed for the most discriminating notebook users.

Manufacturer's product description
The Travelstar 7K100 is Hitachi's second generation 7200 RPM 2.5-inch hard drive which offers leading-edge capacity, performance, durability and power utilization on a proven product platform. The 7K100 provides a 33% boost in sustained data rate over the record-setting Travelstar 7K60. Optimizations in the femto-based actuator/suspension system enable the 7K100 to endure 300Gs of operating shock, 1,000Gs of non-operating shock and 600,000 load/unload cycles, and contributes to its highly durable and rugged design. Enhanced Adaptive Battery Life Extender (ABLE) is Hitachi's third generation unique power management technology that significantly reduces power consumption, resulting in superior battery utilization and enhanced service life of host systems using the drive. This combination of capacity, speed, durability, quiet operation and optimum power efficiency on a proven platform for quality and reliability, enables the 7K100 to deliver desktop-like performance to notebook PCs and other compact, high-end devices.

...Do you know why I brought Travelstar 7K100? Do you know how much awards it got? 1. Editor's Choice Award, Micro Computer, China, August 2006 2.First Place in "Price-Performance", PC Welt, Germany, March 2006. There're another 2 awards. Feel how nice performance with this hard drive. It gives about 30% boost to your PC. It gives minimum 26 MB/sec transfer rate while a similar product gives 14.1 MB/sec transfer rate. It loads in seconds (approximately 0.30 minutes) and its buffer is 8 MB. Use HD Tune. You may find it!. It moves data faster without unconscious noises. It makes low heat than Fujetsu. 7200rpm is probably nicer with home PC. Hitachi Travelstar provided a remarkably, noticeably smoother experience. It's durable and power utilized....

Advantages: Quite, low power consumption, high capacity Disadvantages: Expensive
...I have been using a HitachiTravelStar for a long time now, I have had not problems with it and I have given it a good run for the price I paid for it.
I originally started out with the 80gb model of this hard disk. I had absolutely no problems with it. (I now have the 100gb model as the laptop it was in was broken in a car accident).
I had the 80gb model for a year and never gave me any trouble. It was:
· Fast
· Reliable
· Quite
· Super low power consumption
· Had a quick spin up time
· Very quick seek time
· Standard 5 year warranty
· Very helpful warranty/customer support
Hitachi's customer warranty claims support is like no other that I have come across before. You go onto there website, fill out a warrant claim form; package the device (hard disk in my case) in the way they require. Once you have sent it to them and they receive...

Advantages: Easy Install - a dummy cna do it, I did! Very fast and quiet in use. Disadvantages: None I can tell
...Being fairly hardware illerate, I put off replacing the HDD on my Dell Inspiron laptop as long as I could. Once it started to take 25 minutes to boot up and generated about 15 red alerts in the Windows XP event log, I thought "I am really going to have to go for it".
I had an IBM 60 GB HDD in place, which was noisy when spinning, set the fan off incessantly and was constantly giving me Blue Screen of Death (BSODs).
I started by internet researching and using the Dell forum to suss out the right disk to replace mine with. Taking a recommendation from a forum member, I looked first of all at the Travelstar 7K80 but decided to go for the newer version. I replaced a 60GB 5400rpm HDD with a 80GB 7200rpm HDD.
I spent a day copying filed to CD, all my docs, pictures, music, software downloads, license/registration numbers etc and wrote...
