required for mission-critical enterprise computing environments. Leveraging the proven system architecture and electronics of the previous generation, the Ultrastar 15K300 is the ideal solution for demanding enterprise computing environments like online transaction processing, intensive data analysis and other multi-user applications. The mature design of the Ultrastar 15K300 helps to ensure shorter qualification times.Key reliability features have been built into the Ultrastar 15K300. Rotational Vibration Safeguard (RVS) technology ensures drive performance in multi-drive systems where rotational vibration is likely to occur. Hitachi's Thermal Fly-height Control (TFC) capability maintains a consistent fly-height during the read/write process ensuring a better soft error rate and end-to-end data protection enhances error detection for optimal data integrity. Finally, Hitachi offers the only enterprise-class hard drive utilizing a head load/unload ramp to help minimize drive failures as a result of handling during integration.

Advantages: High speed transfer, power consumption low, quiet Disadvantages: usual HDD shock issues
...The Hitachi TravelStar is the newly developed model from Hitachi Co. specifically designed for notebooks. It varies in storage capacity, but the important factors are: the rotation speed of 7200 RPM, S-ATA 1.5GB/s interface, and what Hitachi says "a 22% performance increase".
Let's see what are the improvements:
-Having tested the model you get a random access time of 14ms which is extremely faster than it's predecessor and it's competitors;
-A Sequential Transfer rate of 71.5 MB/s (let me say wow-it's very fast)
-It's almost noiseless, you get a 42dB/A idle noise at 3mm distance from the HDD;
-and it's power consumption was reduced(in full load it uses 3W and in idle mode only 1.1W), which means it is very economical.
-the price is in reach;
I think this motivates you in at least trying one...

Advantages: Easy setup, Reliable Disadvantages: Perhaps a little noisey
...Nice product, got mine for £45 being a oem drive so no cabels were supplied etc .... It was easy to install format and partition with no problems, windows recognised the full size straight away, Jumper setting guide is on the drive an easy to follow, I use mine as my second drive with windows being installed on another but im always swapping files to and from drives and all my downloads go to the Hitachi and so far no errors, corruptions or anything of the sort, Speed seems reasonable transfers a 5Gb movie in about 2 mins with other things going on in the background all in all it seems very reliable the only complaint i would have is it does tend to get a little noisey at times but only a little and not as loud as my maxtor...
