Anyway - stupid like we didnt take the extended guarantee - which i would advise everyone to do - if you can afford it obviously.
The TV was ... ...had a fax number for Hitachi - nothing else !!!
So I searched the web and found a few addresses and forward the original reciept and a copy of the engineers report to them asking for some kind of reimbursement.
That was on the 9 March 2004.
On the 12th of March we recieved a letter from Hitachi which thanked us for our letter. They were very sorry about the problems we had encountered and apologised. more

The TV was taken away by a local engineer and basically needed some extensive welding and it cost us £170 and we were left without the TV for 3 weeks.
Well we werent happy as you can imagine so we tried to contact Hitachi.
We telephoned our local Miller Brothers store who supplied it and they only had a fax number for Hitachi - nothing else !!!
So I searched the web and found a few addresses and forward the original reciept and a copy of the engineers report to them asking for some kind of reimbursement.

And then the wording "Whilst I realise it is of little consolation to you, I can assure you that all Hitachi products are manufactured under the most stringent quality control procedures .................blardy blah blardy blah.......
Basically I was told that the electronic components can fail at anytime, regardless of age or usage and are only covered for 12 months -so if you buy a telly and only watch it for a few hours every day and after 12 months it goes wrong ITS TOUGH- because at any point it is liable to blow up!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1 day or 1 year - it makes no difference :(
Then came the laughable bit - "Hitachi does try to maintain a flexible attitude towards the guarantee providing failure has not occurred too far outside the expiry date" - Pardon me! - It was less than one month outside the expiry date!!!
What they then continued to say was that since the repairs had already been carried out they were unable to offer any assistance towards any cost incurred.
THE LESSON
If your telly breaks down just outside of your guarantee dont have it mended - contact the manufacturer first and see what they can do - once repairs have been carried out you have little chance of getting any compensation.
Advantages: Change when you like. Disadvantages: Changing name
, Hitachi and Philips.
We also rent HMCs(Home Entertainment Centres) They include widescreen T.V, Nicam Video, Some with Mini Disc and some with C.D player, the latest one has a mini DVD player.
We have been number one for SKY DIGITAL, and we install within 3 days.
That is pretty good going.
We also do On -Digital both the monthly boxes or the Pre-Paid boxes.
We rent Washing Machines which are Whirlpool and Fridge Freezers.
Yes people do have to go through a credit check which is through Equifax. At the end of the day we can only input what the customer tells us and what I.D we see.
Then the results are up to the computer.
We have no control over this.
I would like to say that it is a decent company that I work for and I know for sure that at OUR SHOP we give good customer service. ...

A few months ago I bought a 28? Hitachi widescreen in the Currys sale and, not currently owning a car I had to request delivery on the product (Which was £30 extra, con artists!). I was told by the sales assistant, grinning like an idiot because of the commission he was going to get from the sake, that the television would be delivered to me by Friday (I was a Saturday I ordered it). I went home £400 poorer and without a television.
I waited, straining my eyes on my 14 inch portable television set, for the lovely new Hitachi television set to arrive. By Friday evening when it still hadn?t arrived I was a little vexed but thought there might be a warehouse delay or something, so waited some more.
It got to next Monday and it still hadn?t arrived, nor had I heard anything from the people at Currys. I rang up the customer service ...
Advantages: stock they do have is better than comet and argous and supermarkets Disadvantages: Crap service, sales staff need more training in selling products
my experince with currys is shocking with loads of their staff very untrained on selling thier products i was speaking to a collegeue at a store and he was telling me that the sales staff are very poor and do not listen to us the consumer!
i thought the layout from stores ta the moment at my local store was very poor even tho thier cliam they have better stock than comet which is false because thier make out that thier tv's are poor and service is crap which i thought that comet staff sell 200% better than currys
if you want to buy aanything in this world is buy even online or buy at comet becsue there say currys are lower prices check a hitachi hifi that was under £120 now gone up to £180 which i think is a disgrace
and also i went into my local store which was very quite in january which is the same at other stores arcoss ...
